Hello fellow escapist members! I'm bored but luckily there is netflicks.
Problem. I don't know what to watch. I feel like I've seen every movie that I'd be in to.
I like pretty much every genre except chick flicks. My favorite genre is Sci-fi.

Help me pick a movie you liked a lot! Doesn't matter how new or old (well obviously it can't be so new that it's not on net flicks yet).

You can list several of your favorites if you want but it would help if you picked something that most people probably haven't watched because I sometimes feel like I've watched everything.

Most recent movie I watched that I absolutely loved was Moon.

Help me ESCAPE my boredom!

Please.

Check out the American Film Institute's Top 100. The Maltese Falcon, Dr. Strangelove, Battleship Potemkin, Taxi Driver. These are classics I watched in my Film class that were really good.

Aliens, Pandorum and Event Horizon are really good serious sci-fi movies, and The Fifth Element is a really good comedic sci-fi movie. YOu should do yourself a favor and check those out.

Ever watch Firefly?

Serenity was a perfect movie to send the series out with a bang:

Legion would be a good movie to watch for today...if you're in to supernatural action-comedy farces, that is.

Add-on: It's even available on NetFlix so you could be watching it right now on your PC/Mac/PS3 (you could always be using it's web-browser to post on these forums)in another window as of this moment.

Recently watched They Live and Scanners.

They Live is known for Duke Nukem's one liners, such as 'Kick ass & chew bubblegum, but I'm all out of gum' among others, as well as having Nada's characterization as a component in Duke Nukem's characterization.

It's a fun movie about an average joe in his quest to survive economic fatigue, but discovers a terrible secret on his journey: Every aspect of life is lies and brainwash techniques, and everyone is a guinea pig for the big bad, the mysterious secret society that rules the world. He goes on an insane crusade to take down this organization, and all hell breaks loose. Good fun.

As for Scanners, it is known for the Exploding Head .gif .

Movie has a simple premise: Telepathic & Telekinetic abilities + Mad science = exploding heads and spontaneously combusting people.

I would also add Lawnmower man, but it is more a 'It's so bad, it's good' movie. Maybe worth watching, just for experiencing a similar theme to Snatchers, the 'intelligence and science can kill' kind.

Go watch Cannibal!: the Musical. It doesn't have the best story in the world but it has some really funny bits.

A Hayao Miyazkai film. Porco Rosso. All about a bounty hunter flying the skies of the Adriatic. Great soundtrack, all hand drawn animation. One of my favorite movies and probably my favorite anime movies.

Watch "Ikiru." It's one of Akira Kurosawa's lesser known films, but it's one of the greatest films of all time.

Fair Warning: It is nearly three hours long and will bore you like hell at the beginning, but watch it the whole way through anyways; give up some of your precious time for this film, and you will definitely enjoy it.

Oh, and it's on Netflix instant play, so, yeah.

Takeshi Kitano's recent remake of 'Zatoichi.' Blind samurai, cross-dressing geisha, high-pressure squirting blood and a big dance number.

Also, In Bruges and Black Death. Black comedy revolving around hitmen fleeing a botched job to smalltown Belgium and bleak, pyschological horror in the depths of plague-ridden middle ages England, respectively.

If you haven't already, Sherlock Holmes is also remarkably good, providing the sort of steampunkesque, occult meets 19th Century science romp that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen should've been and wasn't. Plus, its nice that the film remembers Holmes was a master pugilist as well as a violin-strumming junkie.
