all of them? is that an anime or are you saying all anime are emotional/sad. While all anime do evoke an emotion, most of the time its not sadness thats evoked
Every anime I have watched (maybe minus one or two more comedy styled ones) has had at some point a sad turn.
I can't think of a single story driven anime that doesn't have at least one point in it meant to make you sad. Not saying it will make you cry that's down to you as a person but they all some part usually near the end where they want to bring you to tears.
I see. Though many may have a death, failing relationship, or other event to bring about emotion, I'd say nearly half the anime I've seen are just for laughs without any downer scenes.

Really? Like what? Do you mostly watch gag anime?

(Hard to convey tone in writing, I am genuinely curious.)

I've only almost cried once because of an anime, which was Naruto(odd I know) which was when the Third Hokage died. It depressed me. Other than that I don't really watch "sad" anime.

Clannad. Absolutely, definitely, unquestionably, infinitely Clannad. It has its share of emotional moments throughout the first of two seasons, but about halfway through the second season it becomes one of the most emotionally crushing experiences you will ever have. Seriously, it killed me emotionally: I never cried in anything before Clannad, and now I cry at pretty much everything. I cannot recommend it highly enough if you're looking for an emotional anime.

If you watch the full series FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood gets pretty emotional. Or at least I thought it did after having watched the original anime as well...

Agreed, although I am in the minority that favors the Fuko arc from the first season.

His and Her Circumstance was the saddest I ever watched. Really really meaningful moments all-throughout. I would say Evangelion as well but it did not make me cry, more or less made me depressed to be alive. @_@ The Samurai X OAV was also touching.

It was one of my favorite arcs, despite the horrifically badly-translated English song at the end. :p Fuko is just such a great character. But (without spoilers) the fact is, it never made me cry as much as the scene with Ushio in the flower field. Holy crap, that was... wow.

I only saw one mention of Elfin Lied, so I'll mention it again. It's uber depressing and also gory, if you're into that particular combination and even if you're not, it's still really good.

Also, the first movie to make me cry was Grave of the Fireflies. I balled my eyes out on that one.

there are a lot of good animes listed above, so i won't repeat them... BUT:
one thing that strikes me as odd is that apparently "emotional" equals "sad", meaning: there are no other emotions than sadness.
...
......
come on guys, what about all the others?! i don't know about you, but i know more emotions than only sadness... actually, there's a ton more of them - enjoy them all!

...but, that's just my opinion.
I second this. I spent most of the first half of the series (boyfriend has taken it away because we were 'getting through it too fast...') on the verge of tears or yelling at the TV that human beings suck.

The only notable deaths in that anime that you could be refering to just made me positive it was a crappy anime.
