The day I meet another human being who is into video games but doesn't like 'Rock' I will ask them to marry me... regardless of gender.
HAI THAR.

Hip hopper, drum n basshead, gabber, dubstepper and all round electroboy reporting for duty!
Spring or summer wedding?

Got any recommendations from the years releases?
Is it me or has 2008 been a bit, well, shit? Especially on the Hip Hop front.
Winter. THE COLD BLEAKNESS MATHES MY HEART!

Well taking a look at my top 20 albums of the year list that I did for another forum only 4 of them were hip hop, Snowgoons, Jedi Mind Tricks, The Cool Kids and Bad Balance (if you're looking for something seriously different check them out, awesome Russian hip hop). There's Virus Syndicates latest album but that's more grime than hip hop, still worth checking out though.

Band: Massive Attack
Album: Mezzanine
Release Date: 1998
Genre: Electronic
Rating: 10/10
Why: Universally agreed to be this band's best album. This album marks a major departure from the jazzy and laidback sound of the band's first two albums (Blue Lines and Protection), for it invokes the dark undercurrents which had always been present in the collective's music. Give this one a listen for the song "Teardrop" alone. You will not be disappointed.
I was gonna post this as a second recommendation, but apparently someone beat me to it. Damn sexy album. "Inertia Creeps" and "Black Milk" are my favorite tracks.

I listen to "terrible, shallow, horrible and unhip" music too and you know what? "Beautiful" and "interesting" (although I've never met a person I consider interesting) people don't run away from me. Please answer me why.

I don't say that Futuresex/Lovesounds is a bad album (I actually think it's decent which says a lot) the title is just horrible.
There's a world of a difference between having a terrible, shallow, and horribly unhip taste in music and listening to terrible, shallow, and horribly unhip music.

And you answered your own question with your last sentence. People worth being around don't like rockists (additionally, rockists aren't people worth being around). You probably aren't a rockist.
I assume rockists are people who love rock.

If that's the case I have to dissapoint you. I don't really listen to Pop/Hip-Hop/Rap/etc.. There are some songs I like which aren't metal or rock songs (Michael Jacksons "Beat it" for example) but most of the time I listen to Led Zeppelin/Trivium/Metallica/Pink Floyd/Queen/Ozzy Osbourne/etc..

If rockists are something different you can forget this post.

This threads NEEDS MOAR CHEESY HARDSTYLE

Band: V/A
Album: Megajump 2008, The Best In Jump
Release Date: 2008
Genre: Jumpstyle, hardstyle
Rating (1-10): 7.5
Why you chose to recommend this album: It's not perfect (Ice Ice Baby jumpstyle mix WTF!??!) but it does give a great overview of jumpstyle with some killer tracks like Dutch Masters "Back To The Real Style" and Donkey Rollers "Last City On Earth". If you ever want something European, cheesy and hard then I recommend this album.

This is roughly what rockism is:

There are people who love rock (like myself) and are as fundamentally opposed to rockism as it is possible and then there are people who love rockism (but not really rock music)...This forum (and even this thread) can provide you with great examples of the latter.
I like what I like. Whether or not it's popular is irrelevant. Does that mean I'm NOT a "rockist"?

Band: Wolfmother
Album: Wolfmother
Release Date: May 2006
Genre: Hard Rock/Metal (Not really heavy metal, but not the same as, say Wilco, which would also fall into rock)
Rating: 10/10
Why: This album is really good. It draws on some very good influences, such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Jethro Tull. Every single song is a brilliant piece of music writing, played in a style that is familiar to a classic rock fan, but is also very unique. Buy the whole album if you can, or the singles, "Woman" and "Dimension" off of iTunes.

Band: Street Dogs
Album: State of Grace
Release Date: June 2008
Genre: Punk
Rating: 9/10
Why: This band is out of Boston, and sound similar to the Dropkick Murphys, except without the Irish instruments. I saw them at an Anitflag concert and was blown away. The songs are intelligently written, unlike some punk, and are well-played. Buy this album as a whole, or the song, "Rebel Song" off of iTunes.

Yeah because Disturbed, Gobsmack, Metallica, Slipknot, System and a whole bunch of other music from different genres that get lumped into "rock" are much worse then justin timberlake who is a child molesting moron who does not even write his own music, rappers who are honestly the trash of the music world or any of the disney mass produced bitches who get more sales from raising their skirts a few inches per album.
So tell me. How many hours a day do you "guys" spend in front of the mirror worrying about your wrinkles and piling tonnes of crap into your hair.
You can be a rockist about music which isn't rock.

Look, you're doing it right now! Good boy :)
the problem inherit here is that rock has so many subgenres that it is very hard to lump it into one sound.
I don't see what's so wrong with liking rock, or any music in general. I can appreciate hip-hop, r&b, folk, whatever, as long as it's good. Limiting oneself to one genre isn't a good thing.

Why you chose to recommend this album: You're all nerds with terrible, shallow and horribly unhip taste in music and it wouldn't hurt to actually have some good music that won't make beautiful and interesting people run away from you.
Took the image out to reduce post size, but I'm sorry, are you male or female?

If you change "whether or not it's popular" to "whether or not it's rock/metal/other typical rockist genres," then yes, you are spared from that terrible aesthetic affliction.
Okay, so I'm a metalhead, but I'm not an elitist metalhead (ie, I like early Slipknot as much as I like Black Sabbath). And although metal's the genre I like the most, it doesn't mean I'm not willing to give some rap, pop, punk, and even country music a listen. Ergo, I'm not a rockist?

Sorry for getting off-topic, I'm just making sure we're all on the same page here.

Band:Kamelot
Album: Ghost opera: The second coming
Release Date: 2008
Genre: Power metal
Rating (1-10): 10
Why you chose to recommend this album: album cover says it all.
