Really?! Is there no one else that found it dissatisfying? I'm starting to believe that the 'fanage' of anime is turning into nothing more than a source of conversation between digital 'pals'. Is there anyone in this thread with an original thought or will everyone else just spend there time playing circle jerk with each other.

Sorry to be so rough about it all but I've been watching far too much zero punctuation lately that it's beginning to rub off... on your mother.
Woah, people with different oppinions! Impossible~ It's like, as if other people like things that you might not like. Shock~

After the first 8 minutes it goes downhill fast. Couldn't keep me interested.

If you want something good (you know, with character development and whatnot) you can do a lot better. (Like maybe Welcome To The NHK hint hint)

You talk about originality then admit that Yahtzee is rubbing off on you. Hmmm.

The first episode is pretty gory, but it's definitely not representative of the anime. Some of the episodes are somewhat "slice-of-life", while others are extremely serious, and a few are more adult, with very, very suggestive themes and nudity. It's a pretty good anime I think, but keep it away from kids.

You're going to find two answers to this question within this forum.

Those who love anime will give this their undying praise.

Those who hate anime (or anime fanboys) will call the other opinion wrong.

My opinion? This is a very...shall we say, adult anime. Yes, there is nudity, gore, and all that other stuff mentioned, but it is portrayed in a very mature manner. There is little, if any, actual fanservice within the show. Well, ok, some standard romantic comedy bits, but they're overshadowed by the plot. My recommendation would be to watch this, but not as your first anime experience. After you've watched a few good ones such as G.T.O. or Golden Boy, you'll enjoy this one more.

Honestly I don't get why peeps seem to talk about Elfen Lied as a must see anime.
For ages I heard lots about it then I decided to go see it finally, and while I enjoyed it, I don't get what makes it particularly worthy of this attention.
Overhyped indeed!

Want nudity? Other anime do it better.
Want deep or interesting story? Other anime do it better.
Want interesting characters? Other anime do it better.
Want gore? Other anime do it better.
And so forth for just about every department, off the top of my head I can think of mnemosyne which is same kinda thing only better. Go watch that instead.

****************Spoilers***********************************************

Oh and one big problem I have with Elfen Lied is the plot. A whole lot of it relies on plot convenience and the need for some characters to be real evil barstards in order to turn elfen into the way she is (the dog killing...Seriously what kids act like that? Another example is the guy not telling elfen he was going to the fair with his female cousin... He had no reason to and if anything it conflicts with the character as he is a kinda goody 2 shoes guy who wouldn't lie easily, and that uncharacteristic lie kinda set everything in motion).
Oh and what about the teacher that ended up being one of the dio*****, whatever the name was of that species, talk about m*************** coincidence! /rant over

I'd say it's a decent introductory anime if you are ok with seeing a lot of a couple of chicks running around naked in the rain now and then. When i saw it i liked it a lot.

And...
It ain't THAT gory
I mean it's anime, in order for anime to be noticeable in any topic it has to go WAAAAAAY overboard. And this doesn't go THAT far. In the words of Kenneth Titus, "quit being such a wussy!"

Its an anime with loose morals. Nudity, gore, and combinations of the two are often featured.

But its worth a watch. Script is second only to FLCL or Cowboy Bebop.

To attempt to argue against viewing it is far more difficult than to argue to see it, I assure you.

If one likes anime they're almost guaranteed to like EL, though a person who hates anime might still find merit in it.

It's good. Far better than many others.

Bloody.
Crazy.
Sexy.
GO!

I haven't watched the anime, but the manga was great. The characters do get depth in the manga and I just love how dark it is.

Very bloody, lots of nudity and sexual references. But aside from that, perhaps the most epic anime drama I have ever seen.

I would recommend it. It is one of my favorite animes. Though if you don't like extreme amounts of violence and nudity don't watch it.

If your stomach can handle the sometimes unnecessary gore, the psychological beauty of the show will pull you in, and play your strings. It's really worth checking out.

I... the consensus of this thread is that Elfen Lied is deep, dissatisfying, hauntingly beautiful, full of immature and unnecessary gore'n'titties and extremely difficult to spell. Yeah, that's all true. It depends a LOT what you like.

I watched it when I was 14 and the opening sequence is a naked woman dismembering a busload of people with a pen. That was pretty much all it took for me to love it. If there's one thing I love, it's Pens. I mean... boo... no, pens.
