A game I got recommended one nad a half years ago and really enjoy is Theresia: Dear Emile.

No monsters to fight, but dungeon crawling and lots of puzzles. It isn't perfect because there are alot of moment where you can gett hurt without clear indication. But other than that, it is quite atmospheric.

Other than that, well Elite Beat Agents got mentioned a few times already, which is a fun game.

Ah, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, shouldn't forget that game.

Dragon Quest IX was, for me, the best $8.00 I ever spent on a handheld game. I got dozens of hours of enjoyment out of it.

It changes up the usual Dragon Quest formula, making things quest-based. There's a main story and all, but after a certain point you can easily lose yourself in gathering materials, farming enemies, etc.

You can also see enemies on the map, and your customizable characters' appearance will change depending on their armor if you're into that sort of thing.

I'm going to throw my hat in with the Solatorobo crowd. I'm also going to recommend an interesting turn-based RPG called Nostalgia. It has airships, pretty difficult combat (so far :/), and a really cool spin on it's/our world. It's a tad hard to sell someone on it without them watching a few videos, so I'd go check some out.
If you don't have it already, Bejeweled 3 is basically just the Bejeweled that we know and love, but on a handheld.

Every time I see a thread like this I mention Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure.

Henry Hatsworth is no. 1 in the Pompous Adventurers Club and is seeking the Golden Suit in order to becoming the ultimate gentleman. He fights the no. 2 Pompous Adventurer, Leopold Charles Anthony Weasleby the Third.

It's a 2D hacky-slashy-shooty platformer on the top screen and match-3 puzzler on the bottom screen. Enemies defeated up top form blocks down at the bottom, which has to be kept in check lest they reach the top of the screen and are resurrected. Matching blocks in the bottom screen fills up a super meter, which when filled allows Henry to activate Tea Time. The Union flag flies, electric guitar wails, Henry shouts "Good show!" and dons a giant indestructible mecha suit, to lay waste to his enemies with lasers and rocket punches.

Bosses include a lady on a giant cake, a swashbuckler and an old guy in a wheelchair, who is wielded like a club by his nurse.

Go and buy this game. Now!
