So my roommate and I are looking for a PC fighting/brawler type game that plays nice with 2 controllers. It would be nice if the look great, but that isn't a requirement.

So, escapist, what is your favorite fighting/brawler game and why?

If you mean fighting in the terms of Street Fighter etc the only fighting game I can think of that is easily obtainable for PC is Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. If you enjoy fighters then that should be fine, its my favourite. If you were looking for something else I don't know what to suggest.

I hope you've got some 360 pads or something similar though cos trying to play with a keyboard is impossible.

Arkham Asylum and City are both on PC, but they don't have multiplayer.

Was The Warriors released on PC? If so, get it. Its easily the best modern brawler I can think of.

Wait wait wait.

I've got this.

If you can handle a game being slightly tiresome to install and generally a bit odd (both in the sense of being very Japanese and having atypical gameplay for fighting games), Touhou Hisoutensoku. I'd even walk you through the installation/patching/learning the game if needed. Seriously, this game needs more players.

Failing that, Melty Blood Act Cadenza and Blaz Blue: Calamity Trigger are pretty decent. Not a fan of SF4.

I would say you should forget the PC - and download MAME and some classic fighting games instead. Like Samurai Showdown series, Streetfighter series. But also the old scrolling beat-em-ups like Vigilante, Final Fight, Dragonninja, and of course the Double Dragon series.

There is nothing better than an old classic fighting game, especially if you have a joystick - most of the best fighting games never made it out of the arcades, it really is the best and cheapest way to fight. The later Streetfighter games do look good, but you do have to be a bit visually-tolerant; you can't be a graphics snob and have a good time with MAME.

Nah, I'm sure it was only on the XBox and PS2 (with a cut-down version on PSP if I remember correctly). I know what you mean though, I really liked The Warriors. Especially the co-op mode - that was great fun and provided a pretty substantial challenge a lot of the time.

PC's getting fucked when it comes to fighting games. Most games don't get released past their first incarnation (BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger) and some don't at all (UMvC3) I'm still amazed you got SSFIV: Arcade Edition at all, to be honest.

Well for great PC fighting games you got:

-Blazblue: Calamity Trigger (and there is an arcade ROM of Continuum shift vanilla)

-Street Fighter Arcade Edition

-Guilty Gear X2 (like 5 bucks on GOG)

-Melty Blood

And a couple others including MUGEN (which isn't much a real fighter and more an engine to fuck around with)

Personally, you can't go wrong with Guilty Gear and Blazblue. They are just awesome and addictive fighters, even if they can be a little hard core. And i know both PC versions support local multiplayer so there is no issue there. I'd like to get some more life out of Calamity Trigger for PC, so it would be cool to have some fresh blood.

Scott pilgrim V. The World if it's available for P.C. Never read the books or saw the movie but the demo made me want to.

Trying to think of the last decent PC-only fighter/brawler I played.

For fighting, that means it's time to grab DosBOX and One Must Fall 2097. Giant robots punching each other in the face, if you can forgive the fact that it was released in 1992. The sequel...well, the less said about that the better.

Closest thing to a brawler I've gotten to without the help of Flash gaming hubs was punching my little sister in the face for a chance to give Wolfenstein 3D a go.

Don't judge me, she's a vicious animal.

I don't know what it is, but my 12.3 absolutely hates me trying to go online. I've only been able to connect to literally one person, and only if they were hosting.

I even troubleshot(?) for 2 hours trying to find out why I couldn't connect for the life of me. I even almost went through the task of obtaining a static IP.

After that ordeal, I never really played Hisoutensoku since. I was so close to collecting every spell card legitimately too.

Hisoutensoku netcode is astonishingly bad. Forget about playing it online without Hamachi or Tunngle. With those, it works just fine, albeit laggily if you play with someone abroad (well, usually laggy, sometimes it's perfectly fine and actually faster than, say, SF4).

Still, for someone who plans on playing it locally, this shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, local play works fine, but just because my friends and I got used to the pc controls, we weren't able to play locally, maybe I should try Tunngle again, get back into 12.3. Itys still my favorite fighter.

Excellent idea. Do let me know if you ever get back into it, I'm always up for a couple matches.

The OP seems to have vanished, though, so I suppose the thread isn't especially helpful.
