Now, i'm sure a lot of you will have seen a similar thread before.
However, searching for old threads doesn't let me discuss the pros and cons of the games people recommend with them, so that's why i'm not, before all the "Discussed before, use the search function" posts(as if those people will read the post before posting). Thought i'm sure all you sneaky ironic people will anyway.
Anyway.
I'm looking for a good FPS. Balance in particular.
Don't bother (by which I mean, of course, these are the ones you mention to be clever and ironic)recommending:
Modern Warfare 2. Badly balanced. Don't like the game.
Bad company 2. Played it at a friends. Not a fan.
Modern Warfare 1. At the moment, this is what I usually play, and have played a lot. This doesn't mean you need to recommend a similar game. I'm becoming tired the game though. The overpowered tactics and weapons(the M16, snipers etc) get on my nerves, and i'm getting tired of the maps.
Left 4 Dead. Really good fun with friends, but i'm wanting online versus/competitive.
So, recommend me a new FPS. With the recommendation I'd like to hear about any problems and common complaints with that game.
Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm not able to play PC games just now.
Edit 2: I want a game with good balanced multiplayer. A good story is a bonus, but there are lots of good single player games, so i'm currently looking for a well balanced multiplayer.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
It's out on the 360, Ps3 and the PC. The story is based on a fictional island with a semi-plausible history to it. Basically America and China is in cold war that goes hot when the people find the island has tons of oil.
Multiplayer: 4 player Co-op and normal multiplayer Death match stuff.
Gameplay:
You are the lead of a four man team that has to complete missions.
Difficulty only changes how much information you are given: Easy gives you a HUD, the game practically tells you exactly where to go and checkpoint saves. Harder difficulties strip that away till all you got is no HUD, no check point saves but you still got a map and weapons and items. Everyone including the player can die from a single bullet... you can actually bleed to death. Bandages stops the bleeding but kinda of hard to do it when your getting shot at. Visual and sound cues are probably the only way you will know where the bullets are coming from.
Your team can be competent but if you make the wrong choice at the wrong time then your game just got insanely hard no matter what difficulty your on. Do not expect to play like you have on MW2... or You Will Die!
Graphics: You can see everything that you and everybody else is using on the character. There is no infinite pockets that hold RPGs. All weapons have realistic animations, the character models seem realistic in their animations and the draw distances are pretty good for a game like this. So you can actually reliably snipe people and they can do the same to you.
Bugs: I took this list from codemasters website:http://community.codemasters.com/forum/operation-flashpoint-dragon-rising-tech-support-1311
1. Voice repeating itself over and over.
2. The AI (enemy) sometimes just stand there.
3. Audio cutting out at random intervals (though rare)
4. Animations are still a bit off
5. Dead Zone Adjustments
6. Fix Game Saves Problems
7. Players in game size (ex: 8v8)
7. Ordering AI teammates to assault a apc/tank they shoot it with there assault rifles.
8. Enemy AI knowledge of Weapon Choice.
9. Enemy AI knowledge on long range shooting.
10. Connection loss in MP games
11. Ranking System Glitch
12. Sand Bag Glitch (Jumping over sand bag shoots you 10 feet into the air = death)
13. AI Blocking Line of Fire
... don't play it on the computer. The bugs are more and the patch seems to kill some games for some computers. Most of these bugs happen more frequently on the computer than on the consoles.
The Co-op multiplayer is the best route to go for the single player campaign but the game is still one hard game to play. Lots of people hate this game but since you don't like the other games...
the only other thing I can think of is Sniper: Ghost warrior ... I really wish the dev team never put the traditional run and gun gameplay into this game. some missions will have you playing as the sniper, some as the MW2 type and some as the spotter.
Sniper Elite is for the sniper fanboys.
