Recommend me a game (Looking for something specific)

Lately, I've felt the urge to play something in the vein of a Sonic game. Something based around moving at ridiculously high speeds and jumping and running and woosh! The problem is that early sonic games are a bit lacking in story and later sonic games are a bit lacking in... well... good... Anyone know any games that are based around some kind of a super speed mechanic.

Just to qualify, I don't just mean a game where the character CAN move fast (such as prototype, for example). Something where high speed accelerate woosh-bam! is like... a core part of the gameplay. I basically want to play a sonic game without having to... you know... actually play a sonic game...

There's Super Meat Boy but I guess that's more about jumping and puzzle solving.

I'd give Super Meat Boy a look at as it's rather fast, but it's not like Sonic where you have "huge" levels, you tend to have smaller levels that you need to get through in one life and you will die a lot. It's much faster than Sonic though, but unlike the previous poster I can't think of any puzzle elements to it whatsoever.

Also Sonic Generations isn't supposed to be bad.

if you want to go fast i guess Zineth works kinda well http://arcanekids.com/ you gotta get up to speed but it gets pretty fast when you do (if you beat it you can get speed debug aswell)

I actually had that feeling when i got into the flow in Mirrors Edge, even though the game was pretty flawed in many areas.

Well, it's not Sonic but Nitronic Rush [http://nitronic-rush.com/] is centred around high speeds racing. I don't mean Need For Speed where you're given a shiny car plus music and that somehow satisfies one's speed fix - in NR you can start defying gravity by racing on walls and stuff. Also, the game is absolutely free, so you have no excuse for not giving it a go.

Mirror's Edge came to mind, but I doubt it has the speeds you're looking for, and as a person is this thread has already mentioned, the game is flawed. I liked it nonetheless.
I've also heard good things about Vanquish.

I second this. If you are looking for a fast paced action game on the newest generation of consoles, you can't go wrong with Vanquish.

Also Jazz was developed by Epic MegaGames and created by Cliff Bleszinski of Gears of War fame.

Whether this is a disappointment or improvement I leave to you.

You should check out Dustforce. It's quite a challenging game but it definitely has the "woosh!" you're looking for. Amazing soundtrack as well.
