So Iv'e been feeling nostalgic lately, so I thought about playing some old school RPGs.

Now I've had my share of these. Favorties include The Baldurs Gate series, Neverwinter Night series and forgotten realms in general, Might and Magic 6 and 7, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Fallout 1 and 2 and Diablo 1 (Don't really know if they all fit comletely into the genre). So fellow escapists: can you help me out?

Arcanum is pretty great but its also a total mess, it is a Troika game, after all.

Feeling not entirely unlike a parrot here, but Planescape: Torment. I think it was recently rereleased too (it was pretty expensive for a while before that)

Chrono Trigger that is all.
What you just suggested to him was like telling someone who asked what kind of pizza they should order that they should get a bowl of clam chowder.

There are certain things that were problematic, yes, but I wouldnt wanna discourage the OP by saying it was a 'total mess'. I found it play- and enjoyable and will rebuy it on gog.com when I get through BG2 :)

Yeah, I agree. It's a great RPG. You can get Planescape: Torment for 10$ on Good Old Games.

I think that's, in a weird way, part of its charm. It has obvious flaws, but you grow to love it anyway.

Super Mario RPG has not aged well if that's what your looking for. It is still awesome though. Arcanum, Bloodlines, Fallout 1&2.

Arcanum and Planescape Torment really stand out from the old RPG's. They really had some original stuff, sadly most of it got forgotten today. Also with those iriginal concepts came some original flaws too, but I think they're worth overlooking. Oh, and maybe some old Fallout, so you can understand why a lot of old fans complain about the new one.

All you're gonna do is talk, and you're going to love it so much your heart will flutter every time you think about it like it was the girl you fell madly in love with in the 3rd grade.

it's not very "old" but Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. It has great NPCs and a cool storyline. Though it's buggy at times. But that can be fixed with a patch from this games fancommunity.

Cool your jets. I see that you are really excited about PS:T but there is no reason to dismiss one of the creator of the games favourite titles and influences.
