Let the Right One In, which is Swedish and I believe you are also Swedish, so that should be easy to find.
It's also in English, and I recommend it too. If it's anything like the stunningly brilliant film it will be great. Find the book, and the film before Hollywood pisses all over it and remakes it.

Lumley's Necroscope series is... different. Nasty, freaky, but good. For something a bit more modern, I'd look for Chris Golden's Shadow Saga, Richard Laymon's got one or two good ones (can't remember names for the life of me..). I Am Legend (Richard Mattheson) is arguably one of the best, and has an absolutely fantastic ending. Just don't watch the movie first - it's very different, good in a completely different way, it just isn't the same sort of story at all. If you're into comics, 30 Days Of Night (and its sequels) are fantastic, and if you can find it, Ultraviolet (the TV series, not that awful movie), while slightly dated now, is still hands down the best modern interpretation of vampires.

The noble dead saga (the name of the first book in the series is Dhampir) by Barb and J.C. Hendee. Technically it's about a dhampir and not a vampire but still there are vampire a plenty.

you can read an excerpt on their website: http://www.nobledead.com/

Vampirates!

It's about vampires that are pirates. I don't think it fits any of your criteria, or is even well written. But I nearly bought the book on name alone.

What I want is a modern-day vampire story (not a romance).
Then prepare for shit covered in shit. All modern-day supernatural stories tend to fail from what I've read and seen.

EDIT:

You should try the Saga of Darren Shan. Those are quite good. Twelve books in all, you can get through each one in about a day (I did), and they are an interesting read. Well, that's my two cents on this.
I like Darren Shan.
I love those freaking books.

either that or mabye i am legend.

Hellsing!
Also might be worth trying the Anita Blake series, probably the first few ones, because they get smutty later on.
I'm pretty sure they're aimed at wimmins, but still quite enjoyable

Those are actually Werewolve stories. But the Author wrote enourmous good modern Vampire Books, which should be available in english pretty soon, or perhaps they already are and i just didnt find them in my quick search.

One of the best Vampire Novels i ever read.
"Children of Judas" would be the word-by-word translation, don't know what the title will be
edit: looks it is (oh surprise)

Children of Judas
Leipzig, 2006. Everyone in the hospital sees Sia as a kindly soul who comforts the patients and stays with them in their hour of need. To most people, the young woman watching over the dying looks like an angel ? if only they knew her secret? True, Sia is young, beautiful and healthy, but she has been that way for centuries. It may sound enviable, but for Sia it is a curse and her only desire is to fall asleep and never wake up. There is no chance of that. Her guilt is too great and so too is her debt to humanity. One long, lonely night she tries to ease her pain by writing down her story. It begins in 1670 with a young girl who becomes caught up in a dark conspiracy of the ?children of Judas?, a powerful alliance of scientists and vampires?

"Dead Witch Walking" by Kim Harrison. It's a story about this witch who's on a police force and through circumstances she ends up having to live with a kickass vampire named Ivy. Together the two of them try to take down this big smuggling ring that the inhuman police forces have been trying to take out for years and it's an awesome read.

Well, it's set in the 1800's rather than modern times, but I'd recommend Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin (the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, if you like that series at all). It's about a riverboat captain in the Southern U.S. who's hired to be the captain of a vampire's private riverboat, called the Fevre Dream. Later they run afoul of a rival group of vampires. It was quite good, although if you don't like Anne Rice's stuff, I don't know if you'll like this. You could check it out, anyway.
