I like Questionable Content, Gunnerkrigg Court, Looking For Group, Lackadaisy, and Girl Genius. Now recommend me a webcomic that:

1. has good art to start with
2. is story-based
3. doesn't use the strip format
4. has likeable characters
5. Does include a little humor but isn't only about the laffs

Care to recommend one?

You can't go wrong with Looking For Group [http://www.lfgcomic.com/].

It meets all of your prerequisites and has been my go-to webcomic for years.

I don't know what you prefer for story and characters but I enjoy

The Phoenix Requiem [http://requiem.seraph-inn.com/], Lackadaisy [http://www.lackadaisycats.com/index.php] and Strays [http://www.straysonline.com/]

I also like Gunnerkrigg Court, but you already read that.

Lackadaisy?
That's page 4, page 1-3 gives you some background knowledge before it starts off.
Pretty much fits the criteria if you ask me, though if you're not into cats well then I'm afraid I can't help you.

It's also the third title OP stated he liked...

I came to say this, mainly. It's quite interesting, right from the start. If you don't mind it being D&D based.

Another one is Goblins, although it starts off as a light hearted jab at D&D, again, it turns...darker later on.

And there is Vampires Suck. Used to be good, quite good in fact. It just...erm, ended unexpectedly. Which is a shame, as the story was just getting really intense. And it's one of the few comics I've found, which had Vampire in it - the other one was Memento Vivere but it's going a bit slow. Not bad, though, I quite like it, but it may not be up to everyone's taste.

I swear that was not there at the time of my response to this thread.

I suspect he edited his OP once he witnessed the sheer genius that is Richard.

Fair enough.

Dunno, I like LFG, but for some reason Richard always rubbed me slightly the wrong way. I mean, I do like Richard but it's getting too hammy at times - a lot of times the LFG issue boils down to "little bit of story in the beginning, then Richard does something wacky" and repeat again next Thursday/Monday. It just makes things move so slow. So while I like Richard, I don't like him being used as a filler so often. Or at least, do it properly with another arc of his.

Dammit, I was hoping to go into this thread and recommend Dinosaur Comics, but the OP crushed my hopes and dreams by requiring a non humor focused story based webcomic with good art that doesn't follow the strip format. Damn you, OP!

You have a fair point there, and I agree.

Perhaps that's why I'm looking forward to this forshadowed upcoming arc involving...

Richard's curse of being undead. He said himself he was slowly becoming human, after all.

I'm hoping it will flesh out Richard's character a bit more, give him his own narrative, so to speak.

MS Paint Adventures, man. It's impossible to do it justice in mere words. If you you know about it, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. When I saw this brought up I was like "Whaaa? Finally something serious and engaging? Whoa!".

I don't really follow any of those webcomics closely (I used to follow LFG but I lost interest in the story after a while) but I would recommend FreakAngels [http://www.freakangels.com/?p=23] to anyone, and it also fits your five requirements. *thumbs up*

I frickin' LOVE FreakAngels. It's on my top 100 list of the best comics ever.

Megatokyo? Granted, it's manga, but it is fun from the start. Then after a year or so, it becomes less about laughs and more about drama. I still like it, though.

Lackadaisy and Double K are my two favorite webcomics with story.

2GAG is good if you want a clever strip every 2-3 days.

I have almost all of the trades in my bookshelf already, but thanks anyway.
