Yeah, same old thread, different rules. :)

1: No anime older than 4 years
Because I have pretty much seen all the old stuff, but kinda went out of synch with the new stuff.

2: No (high school) slice of life anime
Because I like plot and some overall advancement of the story or characters. Though, I did enjoy Aria, Sound of the Sky and Hyouka, then again I didn't enjoy K-On, because it was a bit too much. So, slice of life anime is kinda of a mixed bag for me.

3: (Popular) anime I've already watched
Kill la Kill (sorry to kill 99% of the recommendations)
Fate/Zero
Attack on Titan
Sword Art Online
Steins;Gate

That's pretty much it... gief anime to watch!

Mushi-Shi.

In the world of Mushi-Shi, small organisms exist, neither plants nor animals, but more like primeval life, called 'Mushi'.

Throughout history, events that humanity has attributed to 'the supernatural', have actually been the effects of these Mushi. The story revolves around Ginko, a 'Mushi-Shi' someone who studies these creatures. Almost like an ecologist/medicine man.

He travels around a fictionalized version of Edo era Japan, meeting people who's lives have been effected by the Mushi.

Each episode typically revolves around a particular person who is experiencing some bizarre phenomenon, and Ginko helps them resolve their problem with his knowledge of the Mushi. It's a really fascinating and clever series, with a really strong 'nature' feel.

The second season just came out this spring.

Given your avatar, I'm just gonna break Rule 2 and recommend Silver Spoon.

I've been reading the manga since it was first released in 2011.

Looks interesting, I'll check it out.

Seen it, wanted to like it because Gainax, but I just couldn't get into it.

Looks weird, but I'll try a few episodes and see how it turns out.

Ehhhh, Girls und Panzer? I found that one oddly compelling.
After Sound of the Sky, Girls und Panzer was recommend to me by someone else. I should like it because of it's similarities with SotS, but it was a bit too cute and silly.

Seen it. Didn't know there was a second season. I'll check it out.

That's funny, because I was planning on watching it tomorrow on my way to work. I'll let you know how it turned out.

Akame ga kiru: Kinda brutal like attack on titan, you might be into it.

Tengenn Toppa Gurren Lagann: Very "Inner power" like Kill la kill and things get pretty absurd, might want to just watch Gurren Lagann-hen (the movie) if you can't be bothered watching the entire anime.

Kokoro Connect: Yeah it's slice of life and highschool but it's kinda like Hyouka and you enjoyed that so give it a go.

Have you seen Madoka Magica, yet? You should give it a try if you haven't, since it's from the writer of Fate/Zero. Despite the cutesy art it's what what it seems.

Let's see.... there's:

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: very good, over the top shounen.

Zankyou no Terror: a thriller about two terrorists and it's directed by the same guy who did Cowboy Bebop

You said you watched SAO, but I'll just throw out SAO II as well and just say that so far, it's a big improvement from the first one.

Akame ga Kill: if you liked AoT, I'd say you would like this as well, it's pretty good.

Hunter x Hunter 2011: if you want a good shounen, I highly recommend this show, although a word of caution, it has a very slow start, but once you get to Yorknew and the Chimera Ant arc, that's when the series really picks up. Also DO NOT judge the show based on the kiddy and colourful design, compared to most shounen, it's very dark.

As another member of the escapists unofficial Madoka brigade, I too second this show. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is Gen Urobuchi at his finest. It's well-written, beautiful, and filled with interesting characters. I cannot more highly recommend it.

Psycho-Pass also has Gen Urobutchi involved and is also another really cool show. It's a sci-fi procedural drama similar to Ghost in the shell, only with more focus on characterization. It's not his best work, but it's still very good.

Wolf Children: Ame & Yuki is a good movie by the guy who did Summer Wars and the Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It's about a college student who falls in love with a Werewolf and her experiences raising her two wolf children in rural Japan. It's a family-drama tear-jerker.

Technically, it's 5 years old, but fuck it, Redline. Just imagine F-Zero: the movie. It's got excellent animation and is filled with over the top fun. To quote myself, "It's the most anime anime in existence."

I would like to recommend No. 6. It's a rather strange dystopian/post-apocalypse anime with some really cool setting and character writing.

Durarara! With Season 2 coming next year, may as well step into that madness.

Also, K Project. Short and sweet.

A few months ago, I came across an anime on Netflix called Legend of the Legendary Heroes (No, really, that's its name) that I enjoyed a fair bit. If you check it out, don't let the first episode give you the wrong idea; stick around until about episode 3 or 4, and you'll start to see that it's kind of like Berserk-lite.

EDIT:

Sir, you may consider my interest officially piqued.

EDIT 2: Holy crap, five seasons?

Seeing as how Panty and Stocking, Jojo's, and Madoka have already been mentioned I'm gonna go Mitchiko and Hatchin, I feel like that show's sort of entered cult status and deserves a little more attention then it's gotten.
It's by a lot of the same people responsible for Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo too, which is why it's fringe popularity is something of a shock to me.

Just watched part of it and Silver Spoon is pretty awesome. The pizza episode was especially great. The anime has the same qualities that attracted me to Aria and Sound of the Sky. So yeah, this one is an exception to the rule.

Akame ga kiru looks interesting, but it's still ongoing. So I'll put it on hold until it's fully released.

TTGL I've already watched. Which isn't much of a surprise I suppose. :)

Kokoro Connect has an interesting premise, so I might check it out.

JoJo is still on the to watch list, but I keep skipping it for other anime.
SAO II I'll gonna check out once it's released.
Akame ga Kill & Zankyou no Terror also looks interesting, but it's still ongoing. So I'll put it on hold until it's fully released.
Hunter x Hunter; I love the original anime. I got all the DVDs in my collection. And now HxH2011 is on Netflix, so that's an easy choice. But I actually haven't started watching yet. I am going to very soon.

WHAT!? Durarara is getting a second season. That's good news. I enjoyed the first one a lot, more than I though I would have.

K Project I'll check it later.
