Recommend me an Offline Fighting game

Well, Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 managed to bring me back into fighting games after a long hiatus but now I'm in the mood to try out some more. The thing is I need the game to have some good Offline content. My internet connection always gives out on my PS3 and even if I do find players it's always the same two or three people that can pull off 200+ hit combos that wipe me out before I can even land the first hit.

I really enjoyed the Arcade mode in Tekken 5 which sent you off against AI opponents in an infinite number of rounds that gradually got stronger as you progressed or leveled up with little delay inbetween fights. I'm looking for a game which has a similar mode or atleast another way of fighting decent AI opponents repeatedly without having to dive into the campaign mode.
Preferably with 2D Street Fighter/MvC style gameplay.

Any recommendations for me?

The Arcade mode from T5 was heavily inspired by(some might even go as far as to say "copied from") a mode featured in Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution for the PS2. VF4E is very much the same style of game that Tekken is, so not 2D Street Fighter as you requested, but the arcade mode is a little more robust in VF4E than the T5 one you've already played.

As for actual 2D fighting, any of the more recent Guilty Gear games have some unique modes in them, not to mention fantastic core gameplay.

This is a good option, but I prefer the BlazBlue franchise. Much more offline content and it was developed by the same guys. Though if you're a P4 RPG fan you may want to get the fighting game anyway.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2?
It's got the same infinity mode, it's Tekken and it's awesome.
Also you play in Tag teams.
And there are more characters than ever before.

I've been reading a lot about it and I heard the story mode is a text overload so avoid that, but is easy to get into and fun to play so that you don't really need to get into it.
Can't say from my own experiences since Atlus decided to region lock and ignore a couple of regions.

You could enjoy it if you haven't played Persona 4, but by doing so you are basically spoiling one of the best RPG stories of all time. If you ever intend on playing the RPG avoid playing the story mode of the Fighter first.

As for BlazBlue content it has a 40ish hour long story mode, Arcade mode, Score Attack mode and Abyss Mode. Abyss mode manages to be fucking awesome and horribly sadistic at the same time.

Offline Fighting games, huh?

I can think of nothing better then the Super Smash Bros. Series. All 3 of them are good, and definitely better offline then online (For these 3 at least, especially since 2 of them don't have Online capabilities). If you want an offline fighting game that is good, just play some Super Smash Bros.

Save Persona 4 Arena until after you've played Persona 3 and 4. It's probably best if you knew the characters and context before jumping in to P4A's story. It's not particularly hard to follow, but do it for your enjoyment's sake. P4A's story mode is driven completely by plot and your attachment to the characters, as there are very few instances of gameplay to speak of. But other than the lack of gameplay, the story is pretty great.

The recent Mortal Kombat has plenty of single player content, maybe that's worth a try. I don't like Mortal Kombat myself, but I cannot deny the wealth of content in that game.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend also a good choice. BB has a memorable cast of characters and an interesting, albeit difficult to follow, plot. Be warned that it's text heavy like P4A's. There's also a board game sort of mode and score attack if you want to just straight up fight.

Though, just so you know there is a sequel already in the works called BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma. Maybe that will influence your purchase, or maybe it won't. I know some people skip the old stuff and go straight to the new.

Mortal Kombat has the most offline content of any fighting game I've played this gen.

Huge 16 chapter storymode with over 2 hours of cutscenes.

300 Unique challenge tower missions.

The krypt

and of course Arcade more and all the standards.

The game is buckets of fun and head and shoulders above anything else in the series to date, I think MK has a bright future ahead of it, being bought over by WB has given them the funding and production time that Midway never could.

You shouldn't Ignore SSB either!

Skull Girls,
It's offline is worth the entry fee though it's not huge.
Just a fun well designed game.

Mortal Kombat 9, Persona 4 Arena, Blazblue: Continuum Shift, Dead or Alive 5, and Skullgirls all have a pretty hefty amount of single player content. However, in the long run, you just can't replace real life opponents in fighting games.

Blazblue Continuum Shift, Mortal Kombat, and Skull Girls are the fighting games I like, all of which have a lot of singleplayer/offline content. Also Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Tekken 6's story mode is pretty entertaining even if the story itself is crap. You get to unlock character customisation items aswell so it gives you that feel good feeling of getting some nice loot.
