Recommend me an RPG

Ive become bored with shooters, restless with racers and stressed with strategy. Im looking for an RPG, J or western, with a compelling story and i cant be bothered to wait for anything like Fable 3 (ive only got a pc) or witcher 2. Ive really enjoyed things like mass effect, dragon age, kotor, chrono trigger, final fantasy before but i just cant find anything (new or old) that really takes my fancy.

Any 'hidden gems' or straight out classics that i should try? (must be easily available on the pc)

You may like the RPG/Shooter even if you tired of pure FPS, such has Fallout, Mass Effect or even Bordelands.

Play Mass Effect. It's simply brilliant. Follow it up with Mass Effect 2. It's a celebrated series for a very good reason. I personally consider it the best sci-fi epic ever.

I haven't played it myself, but Planescape: Torment is near the very top of my 'games to play' list. For one that I've already played, however, The Witcher is one of the best rpgs of the last several years.

Titan's Quest: Immortal Throne. Greek mythology Diablo clone. Very mod-able with a huge array of possible character classes. Go, my Haruspex! Decent story.
I'd recommend Dungeon Siege but watching paint dry would be more entertaining.

its not quite the same as a console rpg, but its quite long for a free online game. It took me around 12 hours to beat it the first time

Torment. Torment Torment Torment. It's one of those games that are so truly, truly great that you can't really call yourself a gamer until you've played it.

The Witcher is old-school.
Diablo II is fast.
Loki is a cool Diablo clone.
Xenogears has a good story and is on PS1.

TES Morrowind, STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl with the stalker complete mod, the vanilla version of STALKER Call of Pripyat (until complete comes out for it), and TES Obilivion. They are all good games but stalker if you want a one where you dont need to worry about skill pionts or XP, and the TES games if you enjoy trying level things up.
