Play Spec Ops: The Line and then every game EVER will be upbeat compared to this depressing god damn game.

If not, then you should buy the HD Collections of Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank and also Sly Raccoon HD. Also ICO, I think, but I haven't played enough to know if it is upbeat or not. Seems sad.

Katamari Damacy makes me smile every time. I bought the soundtrack, actually...always brings a smile to my face. :)

...And for the love of whatever god you believe in, do not touch Ico or SOTC in that state. Both of those games are fucking depressing.
Ah, see, I knew about SOTC but I assumed ICO was a bit better in that regard (although I am yet to delve to deep into that one).

This guy has the right idea. Three excellent platforming series? Jak and Daxter has some somehwat dark moments, but it's still mostly upbeat. Ratchet And Clank is fucking hilarious Sly Cooper can be kinda dark at times though.

The Sly series tend to get a bit dark only near the end, it's mainly all lighthearted.

OT: You can try Stacking, it's a semi lighthearted take on child slavery by Double Fine. Or Grim Fandango. Anything by Tim Schafer/Double Fine really. Try to get games from older generations and emulate them (Chrono Trigger, Pokemon Banjo sereies etc.)

Theres a game called Amnesia you might like, its a wonderful tale about a man exploring a large wondrous castle, making lots of new friends a long the way and taking part in various games of hide and seek. Highly recommend.

Hmm, upbeat, positive games, eh?

I see you like sandboxes.

I see you like Skyrim.

Finally, I see you have Mafia 2. While not really an upbeat positive game, you owe it to yourself to play...

If you have a console, Eternal Sonata is a cheery game about .. the last moments of Frederick Chopin's life.... Its nicer than it sounds okay

Heh, I am actually in the process of doing the exact same thing. Finished Spec ops over 2 days and dived straight into the walking dead. Hmm, play portal 2, finish the first if you haven't yet. Or play bastion...Actually wait, that might not be quite what you are after at this point another post-disaster game :p. However I have overwhelmingly positive memories/feelings from it so it has a completely different feel to walking dead or spec ops =)

Paper Mario, any of them will do. It's worth noting that I consider Paper Mario 2 to be legitimately the best game I have ever played. Not my favorite, but the best, unequivocally.

It's been about 2 years since I played the first game, but I remember it being a generally dark cartoonish game.
You talking about the first one? I've only played 2 & 3 but they weren't really dark. Bearing in mind that 2 is my GOAT so my view on it may be slightly tainted:p

I don't know about that one.
It's fairly dreary at points, while maintaining a colourful facade all the while.
Knowing the ending (which is spoiled by history) makes it all bittersweet.

I guess I'd have to recommend Bowser's Inside Story.
About as deep as you can get while having an absolute cheery tone about it.
Or...you know, Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Reccetear? If you are okay with the anime art style and the fact that a lot of its premise is about business .(Though the game kinda makes it oddly interesting)If not ,Okami HD.
