So I'm shopping around on Ebay for a Dreamcast, no links sorry I badly want one =D it's fulfilling a 14 year old desire for ownership of said Dreamcast.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me any games for it, apart from the following, obvious, recommendations: Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Set Radio (Jet Grind Radio to my American friends out there), Chu Chu Rocket.

And refrain from things like Sonic Shuffle (poor example), that go for very high prices at auction, I'm a nerd but I'm not made of cash.

Other than that, please go ahead and recommend anything, I'm fascinated to see what titles I can pick up that my fellow Escapists could recommend to me.

If you can, get Rez. It's one of my favorite games of all time. It's fun, addicting, and never gets old. It is hard to find, and it's expensive, but if you happen to find one at a garage sale or something, snap it up immediately.

Phantasy Star Online is pretty badass. I played it on the gamecube, but I believe it was on the dreamcast also. My brother and I played the shit out of that game.

I got a dreamcast at goodwill, when I got it, I asked for games. The list was pretty much all the games that were ported to the gamecube.

So yeah, I wish I could help :\ but the gamecube versions are better. Sad day for me.

The Dreamcast happens to be my favourite console, so thankfully I know a lot about the library. Here's are a list of games that I have played, or have heard are good (I have deliberately left out the games you have mentioned).

Toy Commander
Blue Stinger
Record of Lodoss War
Soul Calibur
Dead or Alive 2
Power Stone
Power Stone 2
Space Channel 5
Seaman
Maken X
Confidental mission
Sword of the Berserk: Guts Rage
Starlancer
Gunbird 2
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Alone in the Dark: the new nightmare
Grandia 2
Fur Fighters
Tech Romancer
Evolution: World of sacred device
Headhunter
Dragons Blood
EGG - Elemental Gimmick Gear
Ecco the dolphin - Defender of the future
Rayman 2 the great Escape
Crazy Taxi
Crazy Taxi 2
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Dino Crisis
Border Down
Metropolis Street Racer
House of the Dead 2
Ikaruga
MDK 2
Carrier
Zombie Revenge
Bangai-O
Outtrigger
Slave Zero
Jojo's Bizzare adventure
D2
Shadowman
Illbleed
Silver
Spawn in the Demons Hand
Omikron: the Nomad soul
Street fighter 3: Third strike
REZ
Urban Chaos
Tomb Raider: The last Revelation
Tomb Raider: Chronicles

Believe it or not, most of these are exclusives (or at least console exclusive), which destroys the myth that all of the good DC games were ported.

Even then though, some of the game that were ported, where inferior versions to that of the Dreamcast, especially the Ps2 ports like Grandia 2, dear god...

They are all worth looking up, but I recommend out of that list, Headhunter, Toy commander, Power Stone, Record of Lodoss, Rayman 2, and Grandia 2. You seriously can't go wrong with any of those games.

Be sure to also pick up the big games you've mentioned, especially, Jet Set Radio, the Shenmue's, and Skies. They are pure and utter classics for a reason.

Also, please be aware that Online functionality nowadays is extremely limited to very few games. You would need a broadband adapter in order to play on the scthack servers on Phantasy Star Online, but even then the adapter is extremely rare, and the overall task is not worth the hassle.

Here's a snippet on wikipedia in regards to online play on the dreamcast in 2012.

Sega ceased supporting their servers for online gameplay in 2002. Despite this, now in 2012, 7 Dreamcast games are still online and continue to be played by gamers. These games are: 4x4 Evolution, Doom (unofficially ported to Dreamcast), Maximum Pool, Phantasy Star Online, Quake III Arena, Sega Swirl and Starlancer.

Be sure to get a few VMU's, because they eat space like a ************. Be sure you have at least two when purchasing the dreamcast. They also run out of batteries very easily, especially when playing VMU games.

Lightgun games don't work on HDTV's, so if you have only a HD TV, then lightgun games are a no go.

Oh and another thing, be sure to shop around to get the best deals. Online shopping is your best bet for dreamcast stuff. Most dreamcast games a relatively cheap (especially on Amazon), but with games like REZ and Evolution 2, they cost a small fortune. I believe Evolution 2 goes for around the £100 mark, making it one of the most expensive games for the system.

Dreamcast's are worth every single penny, so I hope this has helped you in some way.

Do you like Fighting games?
Go for Garou Mark of the Wolves [small](AKA Fatal Fury MotW, though it doesn't play like a Fatal Fury at all, it has some Fatal Fury characters and the story is very much about Fatal Fury)[/small] and Last Blade 2, arguably the best fighting games ever, and unlike the Neo Geo versions they are fairly cheap, well they go for anywhere between 20$ to 100$ dollars, I got mine for 30$ sot that's not too expensive.

Also try Crazy Taxi 2, it's the same as 1 except you can now jump with super hydraulics, shouldn't cost you more than 20$.

My favourite Racing game ever Re-Volt, which is and amazing RC car racing game with items a la Mario Kart is on DC to and it's the second best version, the best version being the PC version, but the DC version has 1 extra Track [small](Though you can download it as a mod as a mod along with a ton of other user made tracks for the PC)[/small] 50$ is as high as it goes but you can probably find it cheaper.

Oh yeah, Try Shadowman, it's a really cool MetroidVania type game, it's a 3rd person shooter/platformer game, I just love this game pretty good and I actually like the DC version more than the PC version for the controls, anyway shouldn't cost more than 50$.

Also the Power Stone games, BEST PARTY FIGHTERS EVER, seriously way more fun than Smash Bros. and I LOVE Smash Bros. though they can cost a lot [small](Around 100-150$)[/small] it's possible to find them for around 40-60$, but they are 100% worth it, seriously if you get a couple of friends to play this, you'll have a blast.

I've also heard D2 is pretty damn awesome as far Survival Horror games go, but I haven't played it.

POWERSTONE.

FUCKING POWERSTONE.

Powerstone 2 is pretty good as well, but it's less of a fighting game and more of some sort of arena survival where it's more fun to use the insane weapons liberally tossed around the environment.

I would heartily recommend both Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Shadowman as being some of the best 3rd person adventure games of that generation. The original Sonic Adventure was good fun too (plus Chao!).

Oh and you may well want to look into getting a modchip, because a lot of the games people are suggesting will be region locked away from your grubby little fingers. And also bear in mind that some games in their original DC incarnation are FURIOUSLY collectible now, and if you want originals then you'll be paying a whole lot of money for them.

I'd go with Tokyo Xtreme Racer 1 and 2, Grandia 2, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online, the Evolution RPGs, and Sega Bass Fishing.

Those were the ones I remembered most fondly when I owned the system.

Since I don't think anybody has said it yet, if you can find yourself a copy (which you totally can, I just checked, you can get a used one for like 3 bucks on Amazon, and a new one is only like 12)

Maken X. It's sort of a first person slasher with multiple characters. I admit I haven't played it myself so I can't say if it's a good game or not. But it's always one that interested me, and it's one I would certainly pick up if I had a DreamCast

Power Stone (or Power Stone 2, which has more people) is a lot of fun. You play as a random bunch of stereotypes who beat on each other, and along the way, you collect gems to turn into super robot versions of yourself. It's Smash Bros style fun, but less serious (somehow)

There was a really cool Gundam game made for the dreamcast.
Probably the last giant robot game I've played.

PowerStone and PowerStone 2 are musts on Dreamcast.

Time Stalkers (Climax Landers in Japan) is a goofy ass RPG that can be a lot of fun.

If you're a 2D fighting fan DC is pretty much the best system ever. It has got a bunch of King of Fighters on it. There's also MvC, Marvel vs SNK, Guilty Gear X. Can't forget Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolf.
