There's a catch, however. They can't use the stylus much. Got a spot of arthritis and extended use of the stylus makes my fingers ache. Especially with my DS being one of the old heavy first-run models and having a bit of carpal tunnel syndrome in my right wrist(I'm a lefty).

Now for the list of games I've already played, so there's no need to list them:

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 1+2
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Radiant Historia
New Super Mario Bros.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Dragon Quest IX
Final Fantasy IV
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
Pokemon Black+White
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time(sidenote: wondering if Explorers of Darkness is the same exact game or not)
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days
Kingdom Hearts: ReCoded
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Kirby Squeak Squad
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story

That's...about all I can think of at the moment. I'll also accept any GBA recommendations as well.

If you enjoyed Layton for its story and characters, look into the Ace Attorney series and Ghost Trick. They're Capcom games focusing on story and intrigue with gameplay that revolves around solving puzzles to advance the plot (as opposed to Layton's disjoint puzzles which began to feel tedious and inorganic for me after a time).

I was going to throw in my shock and amazement you hadn't played the amazing Advance Wars games yet, but then I remembered the comment about not using the stylus. Still when your wrists are better both Advance Wars games are amazing on the DS and the Gameboy Advance ones are worth picking up as well. Such a great series.

That aside I notice you've played only Order of Ecclesia. If you played that and enjoyed it all the other Castlevania DS games are definitely worth looking into as well. The handheld Castlevania games have been consistently good, which makes it all the more pity the non handheld ones have pretty much all ranged from mediocre to crap as of late.

I actually completely forgot the M&L games. Played both, loved them, might still have my copy of Bowser's Inside Story. TWEWY requires heavy use of the stylus. Is Chocobo Tales the card-based game? I think I already played that one. Shit, can barely remember what games I played last year, let alone the last 8... Oh, and I've played KH: 358/2 Days. Thought I'd listed it in the OP, I'll add the game sI said I've already played.

I'll check out Ghost Trick and the Ace Attorney games, though.

I personally enjoyed the Castlevania games on the N64...all I've ever heard about them is that they're shit. Though I do have to admit, the hand-held entries are the superior games, or rather, I should say the 2-D games are the superior games. And y'know, I have no idea how I've gone this long without playing Portrait of Ruin...

I actually do have one of the Advanced Wars games for the GBA. It was alright, but not really my cup of tea.

Scribblenauts and Aliens:Infestation are great. The former has heaps of replay value so don't be afraid of spending a bit on it. The latter is shorter but still a blast.

Mario Kart is great and Animal Crossing is good in it's own way, but it's more for OCD gamers. Also as a personal opinion I'd recommend the Yu-Gi-Oh games, as even the DS versions require minimal fast-paced stylus usage.
Speaking of which, with your no-stylus rule you definitely DEFINITELY have to get ... Pokemon Ranger (just kidding of course).

I really enjoyed the golden sun GBA games. I havn't played too much of the new one, but it looks good too. Also, if you enjoy pokemon games, you could always grab heart gold or soul silver, or the GBA ones fire red / leaf green.

can't remember much if one had to use the stylus much since I play DS games on pc in an emulator (because I hate small screens and lower then useful graphics)
but you should definitely try:
Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors
it's a horror visual novel thriller crazy awesome

ghost trick would be super awesome but is played entirely with stylus...

Shiren the Wanderer--It's great if you like roguelikes, and you seem to have JRPG patience, Zelda combat, and Layton puzzle-solving down already, so you might want to take a look at it. Be careful with the critical reviews, though. Most of them didn't realize that it was a roguelike and treated it as an rpg instead. Consequently, they were thoroughly confused and frustrated.

Final Fantasy III
Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest V
Okamiden

The World Ends With You is a very good game, but it's also very demanding in terms of its use of the stylus (mostly in combat). Approach with caution, at least.
