Ahhh... Lectric moosik!
Monstercat!
This is awesome music. I play League of Legends to this stuff and don't rage. Its probably some form of hypnosis, but its so gooooooood! I recommend hitting up their website mentioned at the start of the song. Most of their albums are really really good.

Justice Used to be really into these guys but sorta fell out with them. Not sure why lately.

Its a somewhat busy song, but they have other good ones.

Daft Punk!

Probably my favorite electric band in the entire universe. They even made an anime movie for the entire album of Discovery!!! The movie is called Interstella 5555, and is just amazing.

I don't know if people pidgeonhole it into Electronica, but I've been listening to a ton of The Prodigy lately:

Also, in the same vein, Pendulum:

And if you noticed that the 2 Pendulum songs that I like the most were collaborations with The Prodigy DJ Liam Howlett...you'd be observant.

Odds are you've actually heard one of these 2 songs:

^I swear that one was in the commercials for everything a couple years back.

I will recommend Aphex Twin until I die.

It's hard to go wrong with Boards of Canada, too, although their stuff has a more acoustic sound.

Hey all,

I'm really getting into electronica lately and want to know if you have any good suggestions for me. I'm really picky about it though, nothing too obnoxious or busy and I generally prefer it without lyrics cause singers always seem to fuck up electronic music. I like atmospheric kind of stuff that isn't boring or just something that sounds really awesome.
Here's my top five tracks off the top of my head...
You'll need to be a little more specific...
What sub genera most interests you?
Are you into House, Dubstep, Moombahton, electro, etc?

Whatever the case, here's a few of my favorites off the top of my head, there's a pretty nice variety of generas in this list...

I guess you'd already be familiar with Atticus Ross (Book of Eli Soundtrack) as well as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Soundtrack with Trent Reznor.

I'm a big fan of breakcore/trip-hop music.

here's 2/3 by Enduser:

And here's Cloudlight by Eskmo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IddDWBpkzYg

Both are very beautiful pieces of music in their own right.

Naturally, you MUST check out absolutely ANYTHING by Aphex Twin. most tend to be fans of windowlicker, but I recommend anything on Ambient Works vol. 2.

ERMAHGERD AHL ERV DER MOOZIKS!!

Seriously, this is awesome. Time for comments. Since it?d take too long to for me to address every link I?ll just point out the ones that really caught my attention. I?m just going right down the line, so if I don?t get to you, be patient.

Fapper, the first two links will be great for when I?m pissed off.

Zykon, I quite liked the second song. It?s more ambient than what I would listen to on a daily basis, but I can definitely sense some Reznor comparisons. And no worries that it?s old, I?m just trying to get a good sampling so I know how to pinpoint what I really like.

j-e-f-f-e-r-s, first off. Fantastic avatar choice. Secondly, I like that you actually have a good understanding of the genre. I?m still learning, but it?s good info. Tycho is excellent; beautiful down-tempo groove with a heavy bass. Same thing with Mu-Ziq; I love the emotion. Anything else like it? Also, what is the difference between soundscapes and ambient?

capper 42, I do like the xx; great mellow listening. Also, you think that?s good, try having sex to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho6HRBPOgM0 This song makes me want to do all kinds of nasty things.

AnarchistFish, is there some kind of genre faux pas I?m not aware of by calling it electronica? I liked Burial, but it was far too long for my tastes. I really dig the next three, particularly Clubroot, that opening synth is a wonderful sound.

Pinkanema, I?ve never really liked Daft Punk, their music is too repetitive and emotionless to me. Justice was interesting, really big synth sound. Philter (aside from the vocals) and Ratatat were both great ☺

vasiD, I think I felt my eyeballs exploded at that first drop, but all these would give me a headache after too much listening :p

More to come as I get time! I?ve come up with a few things to keep in mind for any future recommendations:

1. Keep it short. I understand electronic music relies a lot on repetition, but too much can easily wear on me. Anything over six minutes is likely to drag on me, four or five minutes is just enough time for me to get enough dynamics in the song and feel like it doesn?t overstay its welcome.

2. Emotion. I?ve never liked superficial music. Don?t get me wrong, there?s plenty of times when I just like a sick drop, but for the most part I like it to have melody and express some kind of ? idk, FEELINGS MAN.

3. Less industrial sounding. A lot of you have been recommending stuff like this, probably cause I mentioned Trent Reznor, but for the most part I?m past that part of my life where I?m pissed off all the time, lol. (No, I?m not bashing the genre.) If you?ve got anything ? dare I say it, more poppy or catchier ? not like, sunshine and rainbows, but something not so sludgy. Grr ? idk, am I making sense to anyone??

4. Instrumental, if possible. An unlikable voice is almost always what kills music for me. (Why I don?t like Pink Floyd.) It?d be impossible to sift through all the voices I do or don?t like, so instrumental is just the easiest way to go. I also think electronica works better as an instrumental medium.

There you are, thank you so much!

Surprised nobody's mentioned DJ Shadow yet...

(2:23 to really cut to the chase)

Don't let the length intimidate you; it gets it's point across in the first two minutes, then just starts exploring. And this whole album is just as awesome/shitty.

Also, here's something more upbeat... and cuz it's a gamer site, y'know...

(becomes substantial at about 1:19)

Usually the best part is the search. But if you need a quick fix you can always just ask for more.

Maybe try some Faithless or Leftfield (The group and genre) I don't really listen to any myself and it generally has lyrics but you might like it. Can't hurt to try. Also electro. Just search "electro" on youtube (ignore it if it has the word "house" next to it and is a "party mix" album, especially if it has some scantily clad lass on the front. It's not nad but probably isn't what you're looking for).

"Electronica" was slapped on the field of electronic music quite late in the day, primarily when it came to mainstream American attention back in the late 90's (or maybe early 2000's, it's all a bit blurry), long after it had been mainstream in Europe so quite often it's seen as "their word for our stuff". A bit like calling football "soccer".
