Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. (Be aware it is a bit harsh at the start).

I enjoyed 'Name of the Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss as well, though only the first one is published right now.
Name of the Wind is ridiculously awesome but not as good the Night Angel Trilogy, already re-reading even though i only finished them a few months ago

I heard the Eragon books were awesome and the movie was a huuuuge disappointment after reading them.
True.

OT: i highly recommend the Eragon series, known as the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.
Also: Phillip Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy. - it changed my perspective on life.
i've read loads more epic stuff, but those two series take the lead.

AS some people have said, the Eragon books.
Also, the Malazan book of the fallen series, a series of 9 books, going on 10. It starts with the book Gardens of the Moon, and is written by Steven Erikson. He's canadian. Canadians are good writers. I mean, look at bioware, And of course Steven.
lol xD

Anything about Drizzt Do'Urden should serve you well with Fantasy...
If you like D&D level stuff that is...

The list includes (in proper order):
Homeland
Exile
Sojourn
The Crystal Shard
Streams of Silver
Th Halfing's Gem
The Legacy
Starless Night
Siege of Darkness
Passage to Dawn
The Silent Blade
The Spine of the World
Servant of the Shard
Sea of Swords
The Thousand Orcs
The Lone Drow
The Two Swords
The Orc King
The Pirate King
The Ghost King

The series also has several "spin-offs" detailing even further into the lives of various
characters who may or may not appear in those books.

EDIT: I know the list is intimidating in sheer volume of books, but its good. Trust me, trust me.

Also I recommend the The Death Gate Cycle, a lesser known series by the creators of Dragonlance. It's one of my other favorites and has (a) pretty different world(s) than most the fantasy I've read.
I have these books-- all except one. I need to just amazon that thing so I can read the series. :( Since I told myself I wouldn't start until I had all the books. And it's something like Book 2 or 3 I'm missing. I breeze through a good book like you wouldn't believe, so I wouldn't want to get started. (And I'm sure it's good because it's Margaret Weis, who I established earlier as an extremely talented women. :) )
Yeah, you'll definitely want to have all the books before you start, especially the early ones. The first 4 or so books are pretty much completely separate stories with only a few crossover themes and characters. Then they start revisiting old characters and crossing over in 5 if I remember correctly. I need to reread that series too, was reading it and lost the book I was on in a move. By time I picked it up again I'd forgotten what had happened so I need to start over. Was thinking about ordering a copy of The Annotated Dragonlance Chronicles, maybe I'll throw the first few Death Gates in the order too (I was borrowing them on first read through).
