Recently I started sixth form, and one of the subjects I decided to take was Film Studies, and as a result I get to borrow films from the school library.

The point of the thread is this: what are some good films that I should take out? I'm willing to watch anything so long as it's decent. And if you include a brief synopsis of the film, no spoilers please.

EDIT: I also took History, Biology and Classical Civilisation for my A-levels, so stop being smug.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Big Fish
Labyrinth
Snatch
Watchmen
Pan's Labyrinth
Cloverfield
Be Kind Rewind
The Usual Suspects

Just plucked a few names from my shelf :p
They are all good. Some are brilliant, some are merely great.

"Dean Spanley", can't really explain what it's about without giving the whole thing away, but it's one of the most surprising, and awesome, films I've ever seen. Suffice to say, the main character is a Dean, and he's called Spanley. :p

But if that doesn't convince you, the cast includes many stars, including Jeremy Northam, Sam Neill, Peter O'Toole and Bryan Brown (Neill plays Spanley)

Little Miss Sunshine. Very funny, very heartwarming, only cost £100,000 to make. Beat all the high-budget stuff. Loved it. Recommended.

Ha... Film studies....

Any way, as I look down on you from my History and Law a-level snobbery tree I will throw you some golden apples of film so that you can squander them by putting on some dark glasses and smoking a lavender cigarette whilst you debate them in darkened rooms.

In Bruge - Ok, so it's got Colin Farrell in it but really; you have to look past that because he is just so damn good in it. It is one of the best films I've ever seen. If you're doing film studies it's a good one to do because of the way the atmosphere is set and the scenery used and all of the long shots of a beautiful city.
Hard Candy - Excellent thriller
The Big Nothin' - Simon Pegg... need I say more?
Eagle vs Shark - Its got Jamaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords in it and it is just really funny and weird.
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - Bloody hilarious with Robert Downey Jr. at his very best.

A few of my fav include;

Forest Gump
Saving Private Ryan
Star Wars
Indiana Jones
Love Actually (A truly good British rom-com)
About a Boy
Billy Elliot
Full Monty

All fairly mainstream but classics, except the last 4 that were big names in British Film.
