Hey guys, I've got a new debit card with a bit of money on it, and I am looking to rent some films on my PS3.

What films can you recommend me, because when films are considered, I'm not really clued up on the best ones.

Im more into complex stories, than mindless action films, and im not a fan of romcom's either.

The films I have been looking at is the Millennium series (are those films any good?).

Also, is lovefilm on my PS3 worth it, i know their's a free trial, but im still a bit apprehensous about the subscription (is their a good choice of films on that aswell).

Thank you

(before you type Scott Pilgrim I've already seen it, and it is awesome.)

I don't know about that series, however I can highly recommend the Dead Poet's Society, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and any film from Studio Ghibli or director Hayao Miyazaki.

I've watched all of them and they stick close enough to the books to make them all more enjoyable than average. In the order I liked them most it would be Hogfather (it has Death in it voiced by Ian Richardson) > Colour of Magic > Going Postal. The last one wasn't as good as I expected but it was still fun to watch.

Edit: there are also cartoons like "Wyrd Sisters" and they're pretty much word for word after the books but they're not that good. Maybe because I imagine Granny Weatherwax differently. If you read the Johnny Maxwell series, there are movies after that as well but they're not as professionally made as the Discworld.

Dark City, The Dark Knight, The Shining, Forbidden Planet, Labyrinth, Bladerunner, any Monty Python films, any MST3K episodes, the Terminator, Alien, Aliens, Galaxy Quest, Arsenic and Old Lace, Little shop of Horrors (the 1980's version), Buckaroo Bonzai, Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Inception, The Matrix 1+2, Diabolique, The Lord Of the Rings Trilogy, any Hithcock film... Those are all the ones that come to mind. I might add more later.

EDIT: Okay, I am back, here are some more:
Back to the Future Trilogy.
Big Trouble in Little China.
Escape from New York.
The Thing.
In the Name of the Rose.
Fido.
Insomnia.
Slaughterhouse 5.
Mars Attacks!
...and I think that is about it.

A few of my favorites are Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men. Pretty depressing films, but with a fantastic up-turn at the end.

Being an optimist and an animtion student, there are two things I like in movies: Good Animation and Happy endings. (Assuming the acting is good and the story is solid, die in a hole Transformers)
Therefore I heartily recommend The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beauty & The Beast, The Emperor's New Groove, Mulan, The Lion King, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, The Prince of Egypt, How to Train Your Dragon and anything made by Pixar.

You don't like action or rom-coms, yet you though Scott Pilgrim was awesome? Not denying its awesomeness, just seems... strange.

Anyway, the only good film I've seen recently that wasn't the ol' SP was Zombieland. Not particularly deep, but genuinely enjoyable to watch.
