Recent I looked at the amount of books I own (about 10-20) not including school related books so I was wondering if you escapists know any good books I should read
I have been reading
1984
Animal Farm
The Chronicles of Narnia
The Da Vinci Code
Harry Potter ( used to be a big fan)
Metro 2033
The Halo Books

That's all I can think of right now
(EDIT)
Books I want to read
mogworld
The lord of the rings
mein kampf (English translation)
the rest of Dan Brown's books and George Orwell's books

Depends on what type of book you are after, my default recommendation is always Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy (A trilogy in four parts!) by Douglas Adams

other than that if you want something non-fiction but interesting and nerdy Fear of physics by Lawrence M Krauss is good.

other than that I`d go to the local bookstore or library and just pick something off the shelf at random in the section you want. I've found some good reads that way.

A book about WWII with humor seems challenging but Kurt Vonnegut pulled it off amazingly with
Slaughterhouse Five.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is excellent if you're looking for fantasy or comedy.
A Clockword Orange is also good, it's one of my favorites. Though it isn't fantasy/comedy.

band of brothers is good non-fiction

R A Salvatore's Legend of Drizzt series is a classic dnd fantasy thats still going today
Brent Weeks' Night Angel Trilogy is another good medieval fantasy
dragonlance series (only the ones by margret wies and tracy hickman though, dont bother with the others)
the Eragon books are also good

for science fiction stuff, the halo books are good (especially the ones by eric nylund)

If you like Star Wars then I would recomend Shadows of the Emptire and the Thrawn Trilogy. Both are excellent.

If you like the Narnia series you should at least give the Lord of the Rings trilogy a shot. Really anything that was written by John Marco but the Tyrants and Kings trilogy is brilliant.

I second the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

Series begins with _Storm Front_.

Prince of Noting series, genius writing, nice setting, excellent characters and a very disturbing evil faction called The Consult.
It's three books which are followed by another three I think (first two are available atm)
Author is R.Scott Bakker.

A second suggestion (my favorite) The Wheel of Time-series by Robert Jordan.
Book 14 is coming out this fall and will be the conclusion of the saga.

Anything by Philip K. Dick (if you like intelligent science-fiction). Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is very tough to get into, but it has a lot of lovable characters. The Road by Cormac McCarthy and Atomised by Michelle Houellebeque, which deeply disturbed me both, but are really great. If you like something constructive I suggest The jitterbug perfume by Tom Robbins. I can only tell about the german translations though...
