I've been a fan of Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys for a while and I'm sorta wondering are there any other good bands out there of a similar kidney?
Also if people have stuff in the more medievally folky metal/rock stuff that would also be welcome

cheers!

A couple of quick ones; for traditional Irish folk songs rocked up a bit, you can't go wrong with the Young Dubliners:

In the latter category you're asking for, have you heard of Leaves' Eyes? Viking/Celtic rock/metal (I'm sure someone can assign it its full ridiculous metal category!) that's very listenable.

Slanj!

Finally, a question up my alley!

I would recommend taking a look at Horslips, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, The Levellers and Oysterband.

In particular, have a look at Alan Simon's Excalibur Folk-rock opera. Absolutely awesome!

If you're into Drop Kick give The Tossers a look-see.

I recommend, "No loot, no booze, no fun."

If you're more of a punk bent:
The Gentlemen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUi7Fnb2Sz8&feature=relmf
The Dreadnoughts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBLqV58NudI
The Real McKenzies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eu0PtSdSNo
The Rumjacks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDTQQWSmo8s&feature=related
And the all-time classic, The Pogues

There are plenty of others out there, but they're more of an acquired taste.

If you want some folk metal:
Korpiklaani (Don't listen to these guys if you don't have a sense of humor)

Skyclad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ2iileann4&feature=related
Ulver (But only their first album. Also, very heavy, and in Norwegian.)

Folk punk, but not necessarily IRISH folk punk:
Mischief Brew

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpRckbaWfyE&feature=related
Blackbird Raum

Wingnut Dishwasher's Union

Andrew Jackson Jihad

Since I've already been ninja'd to there and back again and thus everything fitting your description the most has already been mentioned, some other random stuff I remember:

Fiddelaltermolk, a german folk/midieval punkrock band, though there is little to find about them online

Lyriel, they like to label temselves as 'Dark romantic celtic rock'. They're somewhere inbetween symphonic metal and folk rock

and just for shits and giggles, Tri Yann, a french folkrock trio from the '70s folk revival (as well as one of the only survivors of it) It's pretty much what got me into folk.

Never heard of this lot before, but really like it. Ta for the pointer - can't imagine I would have found this on my own, so even if the OP doesn't like it, there's a new fan :)

Maybe Corvus corax is something you will like, not exactly the same though.
It's pretty "medievally" :p

Kvelertak is Norwegian, I believe, but a good portion of their sound and songs in general are modelled after Nordic Viking music--most obviously shown in the choruses. They've only released one album thus far, but there is a second album coming out soon, hopefully.
