I've always enjoyed movies but it's just recently, within the previous year, that I've really come to explore more of what's out there and not leave anything to chance. I've been looking at what many others have recommended and have seen plenty of good ones over the summer, but right now, I've kind of hit a dead end where I only have a few to check out that I haven't yet seen.

So, I want to know which movies you really enjoyed enough to recommend to others. I will take any suggestions you have, but here are a few things:

-I've been trying to keep in track with movies that seem to be popular across multiple sites.
-I've already seen most films directed by Kubrick, Fincher, or Tarantino.
-I've been trying to get a hold of a few films that have evaded my grasp (Memento, Oldboy, etc.)
-No spoilers (for obvious reasons).
-Let's leave the joke responses at the door, please.

This is not only a good opportunity for me to see what I've been missing, but for you to express which movies that you've really enjoyed.

So, go ahead and let's see what films come up.

Zombie-land and District 9 were probably my favorite movies that came out last year, if you haven't seen them already then check them out.

The Shawshank Redemption... that movie is made of fucking win. Seriously, see it if you haven't.

Yes, seen that one. And yes, I do agree with you.

Evil Dead 2 (obviously, I mean, it's me)
Original Dawn of The Dead
Let the right one in

I'll think of more.
I've seen the first two, but haven't seen Let the Right One In. I've heard about it for some time, and I've been meaning to check it out.

I've also been keeping track of recent movies, and those were both ones that I had the great pleasure of watching.

Star Trek?
Inglorious basterds?
Suprisingly enough, haven't yet seen Star Trek. That's another I've put near the top of my "to see" list. And I've also seen Basterds and loved it.

I loved the Hurt Locker more than any other movie this year. I've been hearing lots of praise about Moon but didn't get to catch it in theaters. Now that it's on DVD, I'll have to check it out.

District 9, Surrogates, Inglorious Basterds, A Knights Tale (yeah, A knights tale, big whup, wanna fight about it?) The Emperors New groove (I don't care it's a Disney cartoon, it's amazing and funny), 300, Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddik, Jet Li's Fearless and Unleashed, American Gangster, Anchorman, Baseketball, Blades of Glory, Cars, Children of Men, Crank and Crank: High Voltage, Eastern Promises, Eight Legged Freaks, Gridiron gang, Hostage, Kung Pow, Million Dollar Baby, Semi-Pro, Shooter, Sunshine, Taken, The Bank Job, The Forgotten, The Longest Yard.

They should keep you substantially busy.

Watched the Hurt Locker last night, fantastic movie.

The 'body bomb' scene fucked with my head.

Red Cliff is pretty awesome.
I'm guessing it makes more sense if you've played Dynasty Warriors, it's pretty much Chi Bi.

The Wrestler is amazing. Definately worth a watch.

Looking through, I picked a few out off the top of my head, then scanned the rest of it. I really liked a few of those in there, such as the ones others have listed before. As for some of the others, heard some good things about a few of them so I'll check some of those ones out.

In order of appearance:
-Haven't heard about it much before (I'll look into it)
-Original or remake? I've seen both but greatly preferred the original
-Seen quite a few of the shorts and such, but haven't really seen them in a while
-Seen it
-Seen all of them (the exclamation point is greatly needed)

District 9, Watchmen, Avatar, American History X, Fight Club, Pixar movies (basically all of them, but specifically Toy Story 1 and 2, Up, Wall-E, and Ratatouille), X-Men and X2: X-Men United, The Dark Knight, Anchorman, Die Hard, Never Back Down, The Blind Side.... That's all I can think of at the moment.

On the low budget side of things: Cube (sequel/prequel weren't that bad, but more of the same really).
From the "I never expected them to sing" department: O Brother Where Art Thou? and Hudson Hawk
Boondock Saints (sequel predictably will hit Australia when I'm an old man or not at all :p)
The Good Thief, hard to quantify, but I've always loved this movie.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

There you go, a selection from the less mainstream side of my dvd shelf.

-Momento
-The Killer, Hardboiled, A Better Tomorrow and pretty much anything by John Woo during his Hong Kong days
-Primer
-The Crow
-Requiem for a Dream (but only if you can stand feeling completely despondent after watching a movie)

I'm sure I'll think of more.
