District 9, Watchmen, Avatar, American History X, Fight Club, Pixar movies (basically all of them, but specifically Toy Story 1 and 2, Up, Wall-E, and Ratatouille), X-Men and X2: X-Men United, The Dark Knight, Anchorman, Die Hard, Never Back Down, The Blind Side.... That's all I can think of at the moment.
Seen all except for Never Back Down, The Blind Side and Avatar (which I will actually be seeing this weekend due to time constraints).

On the low budget side of things: Cube (sequel/prequel weren't that bad, but more of the same really).
From the "I never expected them to sing" department: O Brother Where Art Thou? and Hudson Hawk
Boondock Saints (sequel predictably will hit Australia when I'm an old man or not at all :p)
The Good Thief, hard to quantify, but I've always loved this movie.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico.
Hmm, seen O Brother Where Art Thou? recently and I've been meaning to check out Boondock Saints and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, but haven't heard of Cube or The Good Thief. I'll check 'em out.

Anything by Kevin Smith(except Jersey Girl)
Pitch Black
Four Brothers
In Bruges
Homeward Bound
And finally the only movie I would ever rate as 11/10-The Departed
PS Don't waste any money going to see Avatar, if you hate cash so much just give it to the homeless or somethin'

I've always enjoyed movies but it's just recently, within the previous year, that I've really come to explore more of what's out there and not leave anything to chance. I've been looking at what many others have recommended and have seen plenty of good ones over the summer, but right now, I've kind of hit a dead end where I only have a few to check out that I haven't yet seen.

So, I want to know which movies you really enjoyed enough to recommend to others. I will take any suggestions you have, but here are a few things:

-I've been trying to keep in track with movies that seem to be popular across multiple sites.
-I've already seen most films directed by Kubrick, Fincher, or Tarantino.
-I've been trying to get a hold of a few films that have evaded my grasp (Memento, Oldboy, etc.)
-No spoilers (for obvious reasons).
-Let's leave the joke responses at the door, please.

This is not only a good opportunity for me to see what I've been missing, but for you to express which movies that you've really enjoyed.

So, go ahead and let's see what films come up.

I just watched Paranormal Activity's. I would say thats one not to see.

Avatar is great, but I don't know who directs that.

-Momento
-The Killer, Hardboiled, A Better Tomorrow and pretty much anything by John Woo during his Hong Kong days
-Primer
-The Crow
-Requiem for a Dream (but only if you can stand feeling completely despondent after watching a movie)

I'm sure I'll think of more.
-I'm going to see it soon (got a copy within reach that I might check out this weekend)
-Haven't seen any of his movies during that period, I'll look them up and find a few that I can see soon
-Haven't heard of it but just looked it up. It seems pretty interesting, so I'll try to see it
-Seen it
-Another that's near the top of my list to see

Everything by Miyazaki is brilliant...
I saw one or two a while back. I might watch the ones I've seen again before I look into others, but I'll get around to it at some time soon.

-I've seen a couple and have been looking at seeing a few others as well
-Seen it
-Seen it (recently)
-Seen it
-Seen it
-And yes, seen it, and also loved it. I've also wanted to check out the film it was based on, Infernal Affairs, as I hear it is similar but the Departed made the movie its own.

I really can't see why anyone found it scary at all... I laughed at some of the acting and was only mildly interested in the "plot". The whole thing felt like a weak film adaptation of low budget online series.

District 9 was great. Daybreakers was pretty solid, besides Willem Defoe. I really enjoyed Watchmen and 300, but then again I think Zack Snyder is a genius director, so I'm a little bias. Avatar, if you haven't seen it, was really good as well. Sherlock Holmes was really good, too.

There are only three parts that were very scary...
I watched at three in the morning, on Blu-Ray, BTW.

The shadow on the door scene, got me a little jumpy, I saw something similar the night before, an actual black silloutte a foot in a half in front of my face.

The scene where she is possesed and talking to Micah, in broad daylight. I had to rewind it here the voice distortion, that creeped me out. o_O

The very end when the poseesed Kait is sniffing at Micahs body. And notices the camera and smiles...

How about the greatest movie of all time: King Kong(1933).
Yes, of course, and no other versions come remotely close to it.

Of course, that was one that I certainly had to check out during my "obsessive movie watching" phase.

Damn it, I missed it while it was in theaters but I am making sure that I see that movie soon.

Seen the first three, haven't heard of the fourth one (gonna look it up), and if the last one is Oldboy, I'm going to see it very soon.

As for the first two, very understandable and I am placing those behind everything else I could possibly want to see. And I just saw Cloudy, was pretty good and visually impressive for an animated movie.

Haven't seen any of them yet, but I've been meaning to see the first and third.

Hot Fuzz
Shaun of the Dead
Slumdog Millionaire (Very, very, good)
The Boat that Rocked
Fight Club
Super Bad.

EDIT: Oh and GoodFellas, and the Bourne series.
Seen both of Wright's films and can't wait for the new one coming this year. I've seen Slumdog and loved it. Didn't catch the Boat that Rocked yet. Fight Club is one of my favorites and I've seen Superbad recently. And yes, Goodfellas was amazing and I've seen the first two Bourne movies (gonna see the third soon).

Audition creepy damn movie. Not very easy to find but worth it.
I think I had about that one about a month or two ago. I just looked it up and it seems pretty interesting.
