I'm really in the mood to play a new scifi game right now. I'm looking for something like a space opera, but anything can be suggested as long as it deals with science fiction. I've pretty much played all the major science fiction games. (Halo, KOTOR 1 and 2, Half Life,Mass Effect 1 and 2, the Fallout series, you get the idea) Post any hidden gems if you can name any.

Mass Effect would be the obvious choice. But you could play something like AvP.

I honestly can't think of any sci-fi game except for Mass Effect and Fallout 3.

Where the hell are all the sci-fi games?

Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic 1 and 2, Spore, and Star Wars: Empire At War.

Not many science fiction games I could think of but the ones that I did list are pretty good. In my opinion they are pretty good.

Dead Space was super cool.

The game Extermination was an extremely scary and fun game. I had it for the PS2, so idk how to get a hold of it now. It had a great story and gameplay. Definately look for that.

For a retro sci-fi fix:

If you can find them, X-com: Enemy Unknown and X-com: Terror From The Deep. Yes, they are sprite based, but god damn it they are still the standard against which all other sci-fi/strategy games I play are measured.

I would say mass effect ONE. I don't like two because of the removed vehicles sections. even though they were pretty buggy with all the driving, they gave the game the feeling of being big. also i would bring in deus ex. I am 18 years old and i grew up in a world where the n64 was my game console and by the time that console came out i was 10 and 8 years later i played deus ex and it blew my mind with all the possible outcomes of a situation.

Mass Effect (sorry, had to)

you said KOTOR, but did you play KOTOR 2?

Star Wars Battlefront was good.

Sins of a Solar Empire if you like RTS.

but you said space opera....damn.....

Mass Effect is one, for sure.

I would absolutely recommend Beyond Good and Evil. A much-overlooked masterpiece, it's an amazing sci-fi game with great gameplay, a beautiful soundtrack, a strange and intriguing story... just, everything about this game is good. Please, for the love of awesomeness, get it.

Its half sci-fi and half fantasy, but Dreamfall is pretty damn amazing. I would highly recommend it.

EVE Online? You could download the 14 day trial and try it out, not much to loose other than some HDD space.
