If you have a system like that, a Total War game is a must, just so you can witness how awesome it is to see thousands of units hacking/shooting the shit out of each other without a drop in performance.

DRM depends on the game, some have limited activation, others online activation or even a constant online connection, a few just basic serial keys. Some people have problems with some types of DRM as well such as SecuROM, etc, but it's rather rare. Yet for simplicities sake I prefer my PC gaming as DRM free as possible so I tend to favor older DRM free games or games with it's DRM patched out.

As for recommendations:
Outcast (Action/Adventure)
The Witcher (RPG)
Dragon age: Origins (RPG)
Amnesia: The Dark Descent (Horror Adventure)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (FPS)
Fallout 3 (RPG/Shooter)
Painkiller Black (FPS)
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Fallout 1 and 2 (RPG)
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 (RPG)
Planescape: Torment (RPG)
Deus Ex (RPG/Shooter)
Psychonaut (Action/Adventure)

To cover the military simulator genre (Be a an infantry man, drive a tank, fly a helicopter.. most things you can imagine): Arma 2 /Arma2 Operation arrowhead

Buuuuut that game doesn't really get to it's full potential if you only play the singleplayer part. Also the amount of community made mods and addons (new maps, weapons, missions and vehicles) is what makes the game so awesome.

And it will give your hardware a run for it's money.

If you go into it expecting it being call of duty or bad company 2... um no.

A great list here, I'd only add World of Goo, Space Rangers 2, Silent Storm and perhaps Sins of a Solar Empire. Also, I strongly recommend checking out GOG. Hands down best thing on the internet.

Oblivion 4
I'm pretty sure there isn't any game called that.

Are you talking about TES 4: Oblivion?

I think you are.

Also, I agree with everything you just said.

Maybe except for Starcraft 2, as I haven't played it, and because of that I cannot recommend it.

Fallout: New Vegas. Great Story and great world in ANY console. Relatively Bug-free on the PC.

Also if you're planning to pick it up, ask me about some Mods. The game looks like shit without some VERY easy to install, must-have weather mods.

Psicat's list is Great, and I'd toss in

Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
Civilization 4 (with expansions and the mods: Fall From heaven + Fall Further)

And because it cannot be mentioned often enough; Deus Ex 1 with gfx updates. Pure awesome.

original crysis(if you liked that you may also pick up crysis warhead)
Starcraft 2 is very obvious
Dawn of war 1 is universally regarded as pure awesome while i recommend to try daw2 before buying it
DEUS EX
the latest civilisation
the total war series(get medival 2 first, it's cheap and still considered the best by many, get shogun when it's a bit cheaper and if you liked medival)
soemthing from Valve depening on what you like: Half life 2 if you like story in your shooter, left 4 dead if you have 3 buddies to play with and team fortress 2 if you like multiplayer and/or hats.
oh and deus ex.

Your specs. They are funnay. How does one end up with 7 gigs of RAM? Unless you have two 512mb chips in there, your channels aren't equal and that means no dual channel RAM. Even then...... it's wierd. Also... all Nvidia cards use CUDA cores, but there's still a significant disparity between top end and low end.

Anyway.

STALKER is a kick ass Shooter RPG.

try mass effect 1 and 2 (2 is better so stick with it). If you want to try something challenging, try starcraft 2. don't bother with shooters that have console ports like black ops and crysis 2. it's best to stick with easier games to get you situated with the pc.

Europa Universalis 3 (Grand Strategy). Afaik there's no game even in that genre on anything but PC. You can play as any country between 1399 and about 1700 in the base game, with power being the ultimate goal. You can get the base game for $14 right now, or the game with all expansions for $42 in a bundle called Europa Universalis 3 Chronicles. The expansions add quite a lot, so I recommend you get Chronicles. There's also wonderful modding support and modding community, and Paradox Interactive games have a tradition of AAR's, where people play their game and write a story about it. I've sunk more hours into that game than any other, and I've never even finished it.

Prices based on GamersGate.
