Fighting Masters Quite possibly the worst game on the Genesis/Mega Drive. I still feel dirty for spending $2 on it at a flea market years ago.

Literally.
Which is where it belongs!
I was going to say Last Battle which is truly terrible, but on looking up Fighting Masters... well, you win.

Worst game ever for me though is The Great Space Race.

I actually have a copy of Last Battle as well. Haven't played it much since I keep meaning to watch Fist of the North Star first, but it seems alright. Haven't noticed any problems with the controls. And the censorship is hilarious. Where the baddies freeze and fly offscreen instead of exploding into gore like in the original (Hokuto No Ken branded) release. I've also got the re-branded/largely resprited FotNS game on the Master System, now that one has some problems.

Overlord 2

This game is frustrating in a much different way. If you're like me and played the original Overlord, Overlord 2 keeps the same mechancis. The minions are great, the gameplay is great, the additions and upgrades are great, music is great. Overlord 2 polishes everything about Overlord 1 when it comes to game play and its mechanic.

Where it fails is the god awful story. It is so hard to get into this game. Right when you're having fun a horribly bad cutscene appears and ruins any fun you had with the game
I don't really think that's what OP is looking for.

For a lot of people, the story doesn't make or break a game. For even more people, how "bad" a story is will be drastically different from person to person. Games at least have the benefit of being able to be judged on a technical level, and that's often where they can fail the worst and most uniquely.

EDIT: And honestly, when it comes to "bad" video game stories, you could pretty much just throw a dart at 99% of all of video gaming and just say "that one" to whatever it landed on.

OT: Speaking of mechanically poor games, Neverdead and Amy just came to mind as well. Though I don't know anything more about them than what Yahtzee had to say, so.
I play for story, so for me a bad story takes the game down a notch.

For extra conditioning potential, get a BB gun and shoot yourself in the shin every hour on the hour you play a terrible game. That way even thinking of a bad game will cause you intense reflexive pain.

If you had a PS2, I'd recommend Dawn of Mana.

However, from what you do have, I recommend Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified for the PS Vita.

Some older lousy games:

If your PS3 is backwards compatible I would suggest Eternal Ring for PS2, or Rascal for PS1. The latter I consider one of the worse for PS1, despite having played Bubsy 3D.

For computer there's Little Big Adventure (AKA Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure) and Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb.

Haven't played Neverdead but I have attempted to play Amy. Calling that game mechanically poor doesn't quit do the game justice IMO. The save system is fubar. The combat is sticky and unresponsive. Due to the weapon degradation system is it entirely possible, due to aforementioned crap-tastic save system, to end up in impossible to progress scenarios. The only redeeming thing about Amy is that it manages to collect a large number of 'How not to do it' examples into a single convenient game. On top of all of that the story is cliched and crap too.

I want to learn to appreciate good games more, so, I figured that I should branch out and play through the worst gaming has to offer. Any ideas?

I'm thinking of getting Sonic 06 and trudging through that.

I have a PS3, Wii U, VITA, 3DS, and a laptop.

Ready set go.
Honestly, I wouldn't go with the absolute worst. Most of the stuff people have recommended here is painfully bad but great fun in the same way a movie like The Room is entertaining. No, if you want a bad game, go for the stuff that's painfully average. Stuff like movie tie-in games, Hunted: The Demon Forge, Shellshock 2, Dead to Rights, Kane and Lynch 2, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Soldier of Fortune: Payback etc. Those will make you appreciate the good games because you'll be so bored and uninvolved you'll be begging for the slightest bit of entertainment.

If you can find a copy, you could try Dungeon Lords by Dreamcatcher. One of the worst games I've ever played.

Anything by Valve. Joke aside I would have to say if you really want bad. God for the king of bad. Granted it might be hard to get your hands on it legitimately, but ET. There's also the game LRR did a LP on. Can't remember the name right now. Oh it was Legaia 2 Umm I can't really think of anything else. I've been picky with my games so most of the time I miss the bad games.

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is one of those legendarily bad titles. Like E.T. levels of bad. Probably worse than that. A more contemporary game I would go with is Infestation: Survivor Stories (aka War Z (aka a steaming pile of shit)). It is basically Day Z, but more shit in every possible way. Interestingly, Big Rigs and War Z were produced by the same person, Sergey Titov.

As a bonus, I will not include a game but a console: The Intec Interact.

Chances are you have never heard about this console and with good reason. It is essentially a Wii knockoff, but with no actual motion controls... or good games... or decent graphics... or a good controller... or anything really. The system can't be more than a decade old (at least I think it is, I can't actually find much on it) and all the games look like shit 16-bit games. Hell I actually only heard about it from ProJared.

I hereby bring upon this thread the horror that is

[HEADING=3]TWO WORLDS II[/HEADING]

I bought the game thinking "I know this game is shit, but I bet I could make it fun!"

But holy shit was I wrong. Framerate problems, horrid voice acting, broken-ass mechanics, and broken cape physics. I was playing through the intro, and the antagonist's cape was stuck to the front of his body. Shit was pretty whack, but it was pretty hilarious at the time.

Still a pretty shit game. You can make your own spells, though. So that's neat.

For a more informative video
Spoilers if you care about that shit in a game with a shit plot

YOU CAN BUY IT FOR YOUR PS3 TODAY

I don't know if it would serve your purposes, but you COULD watch the 108 episodes of the Game Grumps battling their way through Sonic '06. See the mind-numbing terribadness while enjoying Arin and Jon slowly losing their minds.

Actually, this is one of those cases where the game is so bad, it's good. Like, hilariously good.

Problem is, it's expensive. Yes, you heard me. Amazon wants $50 minimum for a used copy and eBay doesn't even have it. You might have to... do some bad stuff to get it.

Resistance: Burning Skies for the PS Vita and Legendary for PC. Legendary was an FPS about some master thief accidentally opening Pandora's Box and summoning monsters to attack modern day New York. I think. They fucked it up big time though; the models are ugly, the levels are badly designed, the guns aren't fun to use, and it's all just not very interesting.

If you want a serious exercise in frustration, though, get the Gothic Complete pack on Steam. Unless you grew up on those. Then you probably like them and think I'm an awful person for badmouthing them.

Sentient, a game where you have to save a space station from crashing into the sun. When you speak to people you can assemble your own custom sentences and choose facial expressions and you can practically talk to everyone aboard the station. Very ambitious but it's ugly and it just doesn't work and is basically impossible to plat properly...

If you can find a copy of it that will run on something you own (the only way I can think of I won't mention here)...
Action 52
...is probably the worst game (collection?) ever made.

This may be too much on 'so bad it's good' territory, but Pirates of the Caribbean 3 for the Wii. Visually, it's one of the worst games to have ever come from Disney Interactive, with weak graphics and extremely shoddy cutscenes. Every time you replay a mission with another unlockable character, that character replaces the normal character in everything in the level including the cutscenes, which can result in the most hilarious spectacle of one of Davy Jones' eel-faced henchmen acting like a drunk Johnny Depp.

But my god, I don't think I'll ever have that fun pretending to be a pirate on a Wii game ever again. The gameplay's the best part of the entire game, and you really get some exercise while doing it.
