Recommend me some RPGs.

I've run out of RPGs to play. So I was hoping that fellow RPG lovers on the escapist would be willing to recommend some that I've missed. My favorites are ones with lots of choice, but feel free to suggest anything that's not a Japanese visual novel with rpg style level ups. Notice I don't say JRPG, if you know of a Japanese Role Playing Game, by which I mean actual role playing and not what I described above, suggest that too. I'm not picky.
The only reason I'm being strict about the Japanese Visual Novel w/ RPG level ups is that I don't want the thread full of games that I know I won't want to play.

I've played and liked:
Baldur's Gate 2
Neverwinter Nights
KOTOR 1 & 2
Mass Effect 1 (ME 2 is a great game, but not an RPG)
Dragon Age
The Witcher
Risen
Fallout 3
Jade Empire
Drakensang: The dark eye (not the best, but still fun)

I didn't like Oblivion, and will be trying Gothic 2 and Vampire the Masquerade at some point, just not right now.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Take a look at the original Deus Ex, it'll be in the Mass Effect 2 category from the sounds of it.

This may or may not fall in to what you're looking for, but give Persona 3 a look (and I dunno, maybe 4 too). It does somewhat fall into the japanese visual novel category, but there's a pretty interesting mechanic involving social relationships making you more powerful in combat. It's different enough that it's worth pointing out - it definitely feels quite different from Final Fantasy games. You also do get a fair amount of choice in that, as there's no way to possibly nail everything.

Deathspank! A great satirical action rpg, with witty dialogue, a brilliant visual style and fun Diablo-esque combat.

Even if you didn't like Oblivion I'd still recommend trying Morrowind, in many ways it's better than it's sequel.

If you have PS3 you should deffinately try out Demon's souls, that's a fantastic game.

Thanks for the quick replies.
@Migo: I'll check out dues ex, and take a look at Persona 3. I've tried the 4th one and didn't like it. Is the 3rd different/better?

@Smiling: I hadn't heard of Deathspank. I just looked it up and it seems pretty cool.
I've played Demon's Souls, and I like it a lot, but I don't think it's an RPG. It's more of a hack 'n slash with RPG style level ups.

3rd one is pretty much the same, except with less gameplay conveniences (you gotta run everywhere, no jumping from map to map with the square button). Only the story is more interesting, in my opinion.

You liked Baldur's Gate, so play Planescape: Torment if you haven't. It plays pretty much the same, only it has one of the best written stories and characters of.. well, pretty much all time.

You played Fallout one and two?

If not, I'd give those a whirl.

As Arcade RPG's go on XBL id say a little known title called "Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment", a nice turn based tactical role player and is actualy just one in a long line of Vandal Hearts titles stretching all the way back to the PS1.

Also, without stating the obvious, Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox/PS, good complex battle and level system should keep you going for ages

Im gonna suggest any of the Disgaea games. If you like to build your team up to be uber ultimate killing machines then this is the series for you.

I haven't got around to 4 yet, but from the sounds of it you probably wouldn't like 3.

Well, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is basically Persona 3/4's polar opposite in that it's the same series with less focus on story/characterisation and more on being Pokemon with moral choices and heavy religious symbolism. It's also quite challenging.

Sounds like the only kind of RPG the OP likes is the type Bioware typically makes. Top-down perspective, pausable real-time combat, party-based, possibly with a cast of pre-built, likable characters. Funny he liked Fallout 3 but disliked Oblivion considering they were so similar.

From the look at those titles, I'd say he exhausted the major recent Western-made ones, so my advice is to dig deeper into older games - the style used to be a lot more popular. Somebody mentioned Arcanum and Fallout 1-2 already - those are good. Try out some more JRPGs, but be wary that the greater bulk of them use turn-based menu combat.

Failing that, one could always try these deviations from the formula:
* King's Bounty (and its sequel Armored Princess) - Sort of in the vein of Heroes Of Might And Magic.
* Spellforce - RTS/RPG hybrid.
* Overlord I and/or II - Somewhat RPG action game mostly coordinated around raiding about with your goblins, with a bit of a hybrid puzzle focus.
* Freedom Force (and its sequel Third Reich) - Awesome scenario-based super hero RPG

I asked for all true RPG recommendations, because I like good, true RPGs. Bioware makes some of the best RPGs, they are not the "only kind of RPG the OP likes." Please don't assume that what I asked for is not what I want.
I didn't like Oblivion because the plot sucked, the voice actors sucked (apart from Sean Bean and Patrick) and there was a lack of fun meaningful side quests.
Fallout 3 had a descent story, good voice acting, and fun side-quests.
As I already said I don't like most J"RPGs." There's a long list of reasons, and no point going in to it here as it's not the point of this thread.

Blemontea: Are there any good mods for Oblivion that have new campaigns? I'll look at Nier.
NightShade: I've actually already played Shining Force =). Great series.

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys!

I've never played it but from that list, it sounds like you would be interested in Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. It's like fallout old so it may not run on modern dual core cpus and whatnot.

Also, you didn't list any JRPGs so do you not like them or have you just not played any? In the JRPG category, Lost Odyssey is hands down the best one to come out since final fantasy IX. You can get GBA roms for final fantasies 1, 2, and 4-6. 4 is my favorite of the series and everyone loves 6. You can get snes roms for chrono trigger (which i don't really like to be honest but i seem to be the only one) and ff 4-6 (the gba remakes are superior though).
