so, because i've been an especially good boy this year, i've decided to treat myself to an Xbox 360. I've not owned a console since the N64 (which was ruled by Ocarina of time) and not seriously played anything other than WOW for years, so i'm quite excited, but also quite out of touch with the last few years. What i need is some game recommendations... this is my thoughts so far.

I like the look of Enslaved
I quite fancy a "God of War clone" so was thinking maybe Dante's Inferno or Darksiders for hack n slash fun.
I'd want some kind of racing+shooting peeps, mario kart style game that my girl can beat me at.
Red Dead Redemption looks like fun
Braid!
Dragon Age...... looks like my kind of game all over, but i've heard it looks like hell on the Xbox..... Is it that bad? what's the dealio?

So...what else can people recommend? I'm not really interested in FPS games and never really got into RTS games either. Generally speaking i'm mostly into RPGs (mostly fantasy themed) and anything that has a great story. I'm also quite big on interesting little indie games. Having said that, i'm pretty open minded so i'll give most things a try.

"Tales of" games are always a safe RPG bet
want a crazy racing game try Split/Second
If you like RPG might try Fallout and oblivion but they are both first person so maybe borrow before buying

Batman: Arkham Asylum. It fits none of the aforementioned criteria, but it is extremely fun. Look into it.

Darksiders is the best God of War style hack n' slash game you'll find.

Oblivion is a great fantasy RPG, but it's also in first person. It may actually be a good way to branch your interests into the FPS genre, if you're so inclined.

I hear Tales of Vesperia is pretty good, but I have no firsthand experience with it.

Limbo is an interesting Indie game, available via X-box live arcade.

Thanks for the advice guys. I did actually play through Morrowind a few years back when i had a PC and i really liked it (i had to play with the zoomed out over-the-shoulder camera), so Oblivion might be a good choice.

Also Dragon Age Origins looks like my kind of game all over, but i've heard that it looks like hell on the Xbox.... How bad is it?

You said you play PC? If you are going to play Dragon Age do it on the PC. I have the PC copy my buddy got the 360 copy cause his PC couldn't handle it. I cannot play on the 360, It is too ugly, to clanky, too dysfunctional. anyone who has played the PC version will tell you the 360 version is a inferior product.

good game, but the controls and the graphics did not translate poorly they straight up didn't translate period.

Vanquish; It's a third person shooter, but it was made by the creator of the Devil May Cry (a JRPG, one I personally dislike), hard to explain, really underrated and didn't get much attention, but it is still relatively new; the escapist has a review of it, pretty accurate, but I didn't find it that difficult.

Dragon Age: Origins, it's better for the PC and is a real ball-breaker (difficulty wise), the graphics, in my opinion, really weren't bad, but to be blunt, it looks far nicer than the graphics that WoW boasts(I quit just before 3.3 because I felt like it, so I can't compare it to Cataclysm).

Crackdown 2 is just some balls to the walls retarded fun, next to no actual story though.

Saint's Row 2, extremely cheap now, think of GTA, if instead of gritty, the writers were totally high, unbelievable fun, it's a sandbox game, it could be considered a shooter, but that's hardly the meat of it, might wanna read around, but you're probably doing that about all games you're hearing about.

Red Dead Redemption is a real must for console owners, easily one of the greatest games of all time, it's got some shooting in it, just check some vids, but it's of coarse all 3rd person, I'm not listing 1st person games for you.

Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood, but mainly 2. very simple, one might consider it an RPG, it's beautiful and unlike the PC version is playable. It's also very easy, if you want to get into the swing of consoles then this is definetly a title to start with.

Dead Rising 2; it's got zombies, another game you might call an RPG, it's anything but serious, story is the worst thing ever, but you don't even need to do it, just say "fuck you" to the story and go steal yourself a mankini and beat in the head of a zombie with a dildo stolen from a sex store.

Halo Reach: Probably the shooter with the most deph and creation options.

Gears of War 1&2: A third person shooter which plays like a first person shooter

Assassins creed 2: Fantastic platformer/sword fighting game with a deep story.

AC Brotherhood (And the other ones), Red Dead Redemption, Arkham Asylum, Mass Effect 1 + 2.

And it's time to get over your dislike of FPS, because those are the games people play.

If you actually want to get an online match, you will buy Halo Reach and COD BLOPS.

Firstly, do note that Oblivion is far, far better modded. As in "don't bother with the console versions" better.

Secondly, I do like Burnout Paradise and PGR4 for racing, although neither is Mario Kart style (and honestly, I can't think of a good Mario Kart style game on the 360).

Blur. That's a fucking FANTASTIC game.
Dat may be true, I've never played it. Maybe I should track down a demo of it or something.

Also, Split/Second. Mad demo, could be excellent (again, never got the full game).

Lost Odyssey is a pretty fun JRPG that'll cost you less than a Big Mac.

Oblivion is sweet, don't listen to the whole "it's crap on console" thing, it may be inferior to the PC experience but it's a sweet game on 360 that shouldn't be missed.

Both 360 Fallouts (3 and New Vegas), start with 3 so that by the time you get New Vegas it might be considerably less buggy and cheaper :p Oh and get the Game Of The Year editions of Oblivion, F3 and New Vegas (which I assume will come out in a year or so) it's always nice to get the DLC for a reasonable price!

Burnout Paradise is a fantastic racer.

Dead Rising. Dead Rising 2. Fantastic games. FANTASTIC! If you own a 360 and don't get either of the DR series, YOU ARE A FOOL! :)

That's my list!

I hate to derail the thread any, but I too just got a 360 and I am looking for a TF2 like game that has a slightly larger community on 360. If anyone has any suggestions for me, it would be much appreciated. Also, computer version of TF2 is not really an option for me. Stick solely within the 360 range please.

As for OP, I have found Bioshock to be good, but it is a shooter and your milage may vary on how good you think it is. You might want to check out Fallout, but I would recommend borrowing it from someone before buying it. Other than that, I don't have much to recommend.
