These types of threads are ones that pop up every now and again, be it music, TV series, films, games, books etc.
I thought I'd make this sort of thread, with a twist.

In stead of asking, we will recommend each other stuff, we enjoy, and if you have some quirky video or article to link, then all the better.

I'll start with something very close to my heart.
In the music cathegory, Heavy metal and Rock N' Roll.

If you want to get into Metal and Rock, listen (and watch) the track I have linked from Youtube in the spoilerbox below. The song is Metal Crüe by Sabaton and the lyrics of this song, are made from names of other bands, which all have influenced the members of Sabaton in some way. So listen to the song, and since the names of the bands pop up along the way in the video, listen to a track or two from each band.

So Escapist, what do you recommend?

Seasons board/deckbuilding/dice game. Decent number of players at a time, fantastic art, and intelligent game design and strategy.

The novel S. by Doug Dorstt.

Here's the deal: The actual book you'll hold in your hands if you buy S. is a copy of the novel Ship of Theseus by V.M. Straka. If you want, you can just treat it like that. Read it from start to finish and be done with it. It's a good, well-written novel.

But you won't fail to notice that somebody's been scribbling in the margin. Two people, as a matter of fact. They've been holding a conversation there. About the writer. Not much is known about him, see. Also, there asre things between the pages. As in, physical object. The two readers have put them there. Have a look:

These objects were placed there by the two readers. They constitute clues about the writer's identity.

There's no other book like S. Give it a shot.

The 1981 movie My Dinner With Andre... Sure, it's about two people meeting in a fancy restaurant, after one left the country some time ago, and end up having a long conversation, but it's the conversation, itself, that brings this movie to life if you're willing to listen in...

Other than that, if you want to see a reality show, but animated, then check out the Total Drama series... The first season takes place on an island that may or may not be legally safe to be on and the current season is "sponsoring" a race around the world... (Honorable mention to Detentionaire for making a compelling, over-arching mystery last past two seasons...)

Funnily enough, I once picked up a copy of The Lost World by Michael Crighton at a used book sale, which had a bunch of notes and comments from a previous owner scribbled into the margins. As much as I like the book, I actually found the comments to be just as entertaining.

The game Nuclear Throne. It's a rogue-like top-down shooter. It's pretty hard, but it's really fun. I've been playing it since the beginning of the year, and I love it!

Two Best Friends play. Both their videos for Machinima and their own channel. Their Deadly premonition playthrough is the greatest.

Well, I just re-watched End of Eva. I'm convinced it's the closest thing to a perfect piece of cinema ever created. It's really dense, but once you understand it, there's nothing like it in the world.
Even the menu screen is amazing

Seriously, it's like a grand puzzle. I may write a film analysis one day. My head exploded when I figured out what Gendo Ikari said to Ritsuko.

I've recently started reading Moby Dick. Everyone made it sound really boring, but like it, well worth the read. There's just this grand, epic, fatalistic war between Ahab and Moby Dick.

Cherie Priest's work, especially the Eden Moore stories, and her Clockwork Century Saga.

The Clockwork Century begins with Boneshaker, and creates a setting of a Civil War run long into the 1880s, a zombie outbreak in frontier Seattle, and steampunk technology that makes the war all the more deadly.

Saga. This is probably one of the best comics ever. It's a brilliant, epic, but also intimate, story about family, war, revenge, and hardcore sex, in one of the most imaginative fictional universes I've ever seen. The art beautiful, the script witty and clever.
