River City Rebels-Hate To Be Loved

If you dig glam rock (NY Dolls, T-Rex, etc) at all, find a copy of this album RIGHT NOW. They wear their influences on their sleeve, and it helps that the album was produced by Sylvain Sylvain! It's funny actually, these guys started out as a fairly by the numbers punk band, and then promptly lost most of their fans after putting out this album, cuz it wasn't punk enough or some shit. It's funny because the only reason why the NY Dolls weren't considered punk was because they predated the movement by a few years (and actually inspired a lot of it's sound). They further alienated their fans by putting out a folk album next, Keepsake of Luck (which was also really good). And also they had sex with all of their fans girlfriends, which I'm sure didn't help matters.
Okay, I'm totally looking this up because of my recommendation:

The New York Dolls - One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This (2006, Roadrunner Records)

The Dolls were glam-punk pioneers back in the seventies, and even though most of the original band is gone (the only remaining original members are David Johansen on vocals and Sylvain Sylvain on rhythm guitar and backup vocals), the music remains. Johansen has recruited new blood in the form of Steve Conte on lead guitar (Conte has worked with Yoko Kanno on a lot of anime soundtracks, and also leads his own band Steve Conte and the Crazy Truth) and Sami Yaffa on bass (Yaffa is best known for his work with Hanoi Rocks), incorporating blues, rock, and a little jazz. There are also several well-known guest artists (Michael Stipe, Bo Diddley, and Iggy Pop) on this, the Dolls' first new album in nearly 30 years.

Standout tracks: 'Take A Good Look At My Good Looks', 'Maimed Happiness', 'Dancing On The Lip Of A Volcano'.
Great album! It's amazing to hear a band continues to make ballsy rocknroll after that many years (well not quite the same band but you know what I mean). Have you checked out the album they put out after this? Also very good. I believe the Rebels were doing a lot of opening for them when they reunited.

Opeth's Damnation

I see your Damnation and raise you one Ghost Reveries

Honestly I think that Ghost Reveries was their worst album. It had some amazing guitar work in it, just it just seemed hollow and forced without much emotion. I blame Roadrunner for it, as this has happened with a lot of bands I like that end up going to roadrunner.

Elect the Dead by Serj Tankian.

Has a great variety of sounds for just one album and you should listen to it. Immediately.

Still Shihad's best album to date in my opinion, although it's hard to judge since they seem to change their genre every album. TGE is hard rock and electronic rock. Best tracks would be My Mind's Sedate, The General Electric, Pacifier, Wait and See and, still my personal favourite Shihad track, The Metal Song.

Awesome thing - they're playing the full album live in August. Got my ticket already. :p

Any Lordi album is a blast. They aren't the best band ever, but their a solid fun hard rock/metal band.

The Swimming Hour - by Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire.

This album is a melange of styles, the most recurring one is of almost orchestral movements combined with more expected rock beats. Sadly I couldn't find any example videos on youtube best I got was the info and samples page on pandora: http://www.pandora.com/music/album/andrew+birds+bowl+of+fire/swimming+hour

Actually, yeah, I was listening to 'Cause I Sez So' while I was typing this, lol! 'Making Rain' is my favorite track off the newer album :)

Mastodon - Crack The Skye

For that matter even check out Blood Mountain. But really CtS is such a masterfully crafted album and the band is really one of the more overlooked metal bands from the 21st century.

The album is spiritual and spacey as much as it is heavy. For a concept album, Crack the Skye definitely delivers musical prowess.

Kinda search bar approved, but... you know, the search bar. Not the easiest thing to find with.

Quite a simple thread: recommend the people of The Escapist an album. It doesn't necessarily have to be your favourite, just one that you think people would enjoy. Say what genre it is as well!

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois: I heard this album about a week ago, and I can't describe how much I enjoy it. It's kind of indie/alternative-folk-pop, but it doesn't fall into the trap that so many other similar artists do of either being boring or twee. It just works, and is both the happiest and saddest album I've heard. Make of that what you will...
I listened to this album on your reccomendation and I love it. Really great album thanks for the reccomendation :)

Pinkerton by Weezer. Brilliantly abrasive pop, perfect for just about any situation, and probably one of the best albums of the 90s.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/ca/Pinkerton_cover.jpg
EDIT: One of their most underrated songs on their most underrated album. The lyircs and melodies are just genius. <youtube=hLHXUPUJFPk>

Rise Against: Appeal to Reason just because it is probably their best album just listen to 'entertainment' or 'savior' by Rise Against
Really? Have you listened to all of their albums? I like Appeal to Reason, and the songs you named are some of the best on the album (along with "Hero of War" of course), but I find that it doesn't measure up to the older stuff. Have you listened to The Unraveling or Siren Song of the Counter Culture (which, for the purposes of this thread, is my recommendation. Highlights are "Give it All", "Paper Wings", and "Rumors of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated".)
