Having read some threads about a lack of musical diversity and enough threads about good game soundtracks I thought I'd see what you guys have to recommend in the way of Alternative and Indie music, so go wild!
I'll kick of with a lesser-known track by Modest Mouse - Fire It Up!

"The Paddingtons", loved them for years, really nice blokes, great music, look up "First Comes First"

"Dustins Bar Mitzvah", no longer around, but they still had some great songs, "Goldhawk Road" was a good one, as well as "Kick Him Out"

"The Bandits", again some great songs, "The Warning" and "Numbers"

Edit: Forgot "The Cribs", love "The Cribs", excellent music, "Another Number" and "Man's Needs" being my favourite

And I know they are quite well known "The Strokes" are my favourite band of all time.

Well, here's a pretty good song by a band that has come onto my radar recently.
There's a music video, but it cuts out the first minute or so, and that's too awesome to not include

I love XM!

The video technically doesn't show anything nasty but it's still somehow disgusting:

The indie and alternative spectrum has no lack of variety. With that in mind, here's an eclectic collection of artists.

The Joy Formidable are picking up steam, check them out if you have yet to. I preferred the cut of this song on their EP "A Balloon Called Moaning" but their album "The Big Roar" is getting pimped out now and has a lot of good stuff on it:

Wolf Parade has been compared to the Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse. They just happen to be friends with both. So here's some of their fine work:

Something that's not for everyone, clunky drum beats mix with thick warm bass, tinny metallic guitar, and sweet fleeting chimes in the low-fi psychedelic rock stylings of Women:

Something else that's not for everyone, Mi-Gu combines the eclectic sensibilities of Japanese experimental rock outfits like Cornelius with a dedication to synth composition that would make Air jealous:

The hypnotically captivating music of Beach house. Part Shoe Gaze, Part Slowcore, all beautiful. Emily Legrange's pipes go a long way towards achieving that effect:

Elizabeth Harper, otherwise known as Class Actress, brings you 80's inspired Electronica. She's new, not even a full album yet but she's got promise. Check out "Careful what you say or do" and "Terminally Chill." For something a bit sweeter, check out "Adolescent Heart":

Maybe country is more your thing? Neko Case hears you:

Finally (for now) The Libertines. If you never heard of them (how could you not?) you should check them out. A great band, fans of The Clash, now extinct. They could have been immortal legends, but one of them was a druggie who couldn't keep his nose out of trouble. Sigh.
