I don't know if they really qualify as indie, but everyone who's ever lived should listen to them anyway.

I present to you, the best song ever.

Having read some threads about a lack of musical diversity and enough threads about good game soundtracks I thought I'd see what you guys have to recommend in the way of Alternative and Indie music, so go wild!
I'll kick of with a lesser-known track by Modest Mouse - Fire It Up!
I love Fire It Up! I love that ticking kinda noice that plays in that background the whole song. I find it awesomely ironic, normally it'd be really annoying but it works here.

Currently I cant get enough of The Front Bottoms

Im not sure if Scissor Sisters counts, but they're GREAT.
My Chemical Romance actually REALLY like Modest Mouse, just abit gloomier; anything but their newiest stuff is great. I havent heard Danger Days (or whatever their new alum is) but "NaNaNa" is annoying.
I gues that's all for now, I lost my ipod. I might post more if I remember some more.
Oh yeah, how could I forget. THE PIXIES! They are like the grandfathers of indie music.

OK, last edit:
Orbs and Fear Before are amazing.
Its almost impossible to find any Fear Before on youtube though.
NOw that I look, there's a lot more stuff on there but anyways...
Fear Befoe is relly varied so you should lookup more of their stuff
^I fucking LOVE this song, and all of their songs, but especailly ths one^

The Wombats are a band I like, they're British though incase that would bother you.
I love The Wombats.

Some of my other favorites are The Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie, The Limousines, My Chemical Romance, Flogging Molly, and Social Distortion. Those last two are less Alternative and more Punk. I would embed some stuff, but I'm lazy...

When I saw this thread title I was totally going to tell you to listen to Modest Mouse D: in which case, Arctic Monkeys are good fun, as are TV on the Radio.

On another note, totes saw MM live a few days back :D it was EXCELLENT.

Being British and a big fan I hardly find it bothering - Let's Dance To Joy Division is their best imo!

The Joy Formidable are picking up steam, check them out if you have yet to. I preferred the cut of this song on their EP "A Balloon Called Moaning" but their album "The Big Roar" is getting pimped out now and has a lot of good stuff on it.
Been following them since I heard Austere on Xfm! Also a Libertines fan, I'll check out the oter stuff you suggested in due course :)

Loving the Arcade Fire and Muse suggestions, considering have seen Muse live and preordered The Suburbs!

Any of you guys familiar with The National?

Degausser man ... degausser.

OP: if you're okay with more progressive Coheed & Cambria. Great storytelling and comics to boot.

I don't like White Lies, I think they are a poor man's Editors, who are themselves a poor man's Interpol. 80s post-punk has been recycled enough this decade, there are artists doing far more interesting things at the moment.

Personally I recommend:

I personally think their's is a good take on it, and the lead guy's got an almost Ian Curtis-like sound to his voice. But yes, we've all got different tastes.
If you want something a bit different, there's always Matt & Kim or The Naked and Famous?

Arctic Monkeys, their newer stuff is great.

Some alternative stuff is The Hoosiers, who are awesome and I've been listening to them quite a bit recently.

I think The Arctic Monkeys' stuff has gone right downhill since When The Sun Comes Down, with Fluorescent Adolescent being an all too brief exception. The Hoosiers' debut was kick-ass, but their new stuff is a let-down imo.

You familiar with Two Door Cinema Club? Those guys are picking up some serious momentum now, and believe me it's well deserved. The Vaccines are pretty good as well, especially if you like some frantic Arctic Monkeys style.
