Well, yea. I'm looking for games like that, I like that concept, I just couldn't get into Sins though.

And help is appreciated.

Star wars: empire at war is rather close, adds land battles, and is a little choppier in that you have to load up the battles when fleets/armies cross. bit easier to get into, with nice SP campaigns.
and its pretty cheap now.

Galactic Civlizations 2. It's like a cross between Sins and Civilization. And it's freaking awesome!

Everyone just beat me to every idea I had. So instead, let me tell you that if you're looking for games with similar gameplay, I can tell you that it is part of a genre called 4X games. Here's the Wikipedia article:

Eve online I haven't played it but it does look similar to sins. Its probably an MMO.
Only if you're the CEO of a major corp does Eve get like this.

Masters of Orion 2? Ok, old game, but still a solid gameplay experience. That's me tapped out - MoO and Sins are the only two galactic empire games I own.

It's still pretty enjoyable imo. It's like sins in the way that you sort of play from the level of a unit.

E+OT: Also, look up Imperium Galactica 2. That might hit your tastes.

EVE online can be fun for some people. For me, nearly everything felt like work.

As for the original poster, we really do need more information. What part of Sins appeals to him? The space and ships? The real time combat? The big picture strategy?

Ignore these guys. What you want is Galactic Civilizations 2. Same developer, much much easier to get into.

Distant Worlds [http://www.matrixgames.com/products/379/details/Distant.Worlds] is a real time 4X space game that plays at a slow enough pace to allow for gameplay similar to turn based, but with more active battles. It favors macromanagement, with automation features to help take care of the micromanagement for you. I enjoy it a immensely.

Here's a reveiw [http://www.outofeight.info/2010/04/distant-worlds-review.html].

If you haven't already, get Sins Entrenchment. Space stations, awesome space stations.

There aren't many games like sins and spore will just annoy you with its lack of depth. Sins takes a little while to get into what with the lack of a story mode but once you do that game is epic.

I'm gonna have to reinstall it actually lol, I love that game.

Well everyone already has all the space games posted so i'll recommend Supreme Commander, it has really really massive battles with thousands of units going at each other, and really huge maps

Or another recommendation is X3:Terran Conflict, a space simulator with some empire building involved, massive battles with a lot of ships and again a huge world map.

Both have really huge battles going on.

Oh, and for a old one try Imperium Galactica 2, quite a nice space RTS, similar to galactic civilizations in real-time mode
