Basically what the title says. Two friends of mine like to get together to drink beer and play games when our schedules line up. We can connect say two xboxs or two PS3's together but we like it when we're all in the same room. So I'm here looking for some recommendations for some games to play. So far we've done LBP 1 and 2, Trine 2, Legend of Zelda: 4 swords, and Castle Crashers. We have access to a Wii as well but none of us are really fond of motion controls. So send some ideas my way, thanks guys! (Pardon any errors I just came from one of said hang outs and have been drinking. Yay beer.)

I hear Borderlands is a good multiplier game. There is also Ratchet and Clank all 4 one if you can tolerate a slightly childish tone. I have not played one or the other so I cannot comment on how fun they are but those are the two that come to mind.

Obvious choices of Smash Bros and Mario Kart if you have a wii.

Less obvious choice is Excite Truck for the wii, it has motion controls, but it's absurd and fun and if you're drinking, it could be a hit

Also left 4 dead. Can't remember how many people can play local, at least 2 though

I also second Borderlands. It's a lot of fun local, but you need a pretty big tv to be able to read the stats on the guns though when you're in split screen

If you want to see which ones of your friends are greedy douches or uncaring twats: might I suggest the good ol' Left 4 Dead series? :3

Borderlands is damn good fun. If you can get 2 xbox consoles hooked together, also consider Left 4 Dead, it's a good one as well. Gears of War 2 and 3 are fun, especially horde mode, but that's more catering to a specific taste, either you'll love it or you won't. Halo is reasonable; not my favorite, but still has potential.
Aegis Wing is a decent one on XBLA, but it's a one-off deal; you beat it and that's all there is. One sitting, max. Also on XBLA is that one Castlevania; I can't remember the title but it's decent from what I hear. Better still, look up Worms on XBLA. The second one has a much expanded arsenal from the first, and makes for some hilarious turn based comical violence.
Resident Evil 5 is a terrible game if you're taking it seriously, but for two players, it is a lot of fun as long as you either A: ignore the plot altogether, or B: Mystery Science Theater that sucker.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a meh game IMO, but it's also an option purpose built for 4 player local play.

That's all I've got, hope it helps.

Unless you like Zombies. Left 4 Dead has local co-op too. Not sure about L4D2 but I would assume it have local. Zombie-killing mood aside I agree with the Halo option mainly because I'm unfamiliar with any other local co-op games from this gen...except for fighting games that is, those are probably all still local.

Borderlands, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Killing Floor, all available on Steam and all with local co-op multiplayer.

We tried Borderlands and it wouldn't let us connect :/
Cant think why it wouldnt work. Made sure you startd a LAN game?

If you try an online game on the same network, it causes epic lag and connection issues, ive tried it.

EDIT: I just read OP, didnt read that you specifically meant consoles.

Harms Way off of XBLA is pretty good, and as far as I know it's free, so there's no reason not to try it! It's a racing game but you can control turrets around the track to shoot at your competitors.

Also, obviously Left 4 Dead 1 and 2.

unfortunately with borderlands, to play with 3-4 players, you need 2+ consoles, otherwise not a bad suggestion, as i too would highly recommend it

You might want to keep an eye on the upcoming Syndicate game. It has a 4-play co-op mode that's actually really fun and challenging (There's no easy mode, only normal, hard, and really hard) and requires a good deal of teamwork. There's a demo out on LIVE and PSN if you want to check it out.

And I second the Left 4 Dead games.

Any fighting game that's come out in recent history if you're not above some pass-the-controller style of play.

Other than that, the list of games with Local Multiplayer is pretty slim. Borderlands, anything in the HALO series, Worms (I think it's Worms 2? Worms 2 Armageddon? Whichever. Check the XBLA for it), Left 4 Dead series, Gears of War.

I think some of the Gauntlet games are available on the PSN/XBLA for some MP Hack-N-Slash action (admittedly dated).

E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy is kind of weird, and very co-op.
Don't die a whole lot though.

Terraria is another major LAN favorite of mine.
