I'm specifically looking for "expansion" type mods, where the vanilla map and factions are preserved, but there's a significant amount of new items, modes, and features added along, like enhanced diplomacy options, new career paths, new troop trees etc. etc. I already know of Floris Expanded Modpack and I'm using it at the moment, but I don't seem to like it that much - some of the new features seem kinda broken. Anyone know any good ones aside from Floris? If not, then "total conversions" will do, too. By "total conversions" I mean mods so big and rich in content they could pass off as a separate game (like With Fire and Sword did) - new maps, new troops, new factions, new lore etc. As for these, I've already played Brytenwalda and Prophesy (it's not a misspelling, believe me) of Pendor, but didn't like the latter because of not-so-well executed fantasy elements. Generally speaking, fantasy always comes out poorly in M&B, so try to avoid recommending mods that have it. Also, please recommend mods that are as bug-free as possible (final versions are mostly appreciated) and compatible with 1.153-1.158 version of the game. I know the newest one is 1.160, but I didn't want to update because somehow every version differs so much from the previous one, that most of the time mods go apeshit when ran on a version newer than compatible.

I used Floris myself...really wished that there had been an option to pick and choose which features to keep active and which to lose. It really is a terribly bloated mod.

There's one set in feudal japan, I can't remember the name and I can't look it up because I am at work. But is a really, really good one and can be easily found on Warband Nexus. Anyone know if there's a decent Romance of Three Kingdoms (Ancient China basicly) one? I found one but looked kinda "meh" to me.

The feudal Japan mod is Gekokujo, which I suggest getting to both the OP and yourself. One of my favorite mods. Good thing you avoided that Romance of the Three Kingdoms one, it's very heavy on anime themes. The weapons are just stupidly outrageous.

One of my personal favorites is 1257AD. A mod set in Medieval Europe and some of the Middle East. This mod adds weapons, armor, horses, factions, upgradable manors, and some really fun times. I've sunk the most hours into this one. It comes with Floris' graphical upgrade as well, so it looks amazing.

I've just read about this a little. Will my PC even be able to handle it? I mean, whole map of Europe and Middle East, with 42 factions must be very demanding resource-wise.

well if it can handle the base game I think it can handle 1257AD.

Not necessarily. My old PC could handle base game on max settings just fine, but it couldn't for shit handle Brytenwalda - it was too demanding. I got to play it after I bought my current rig, so it doesn't really work that way.

'Diplomacy'.

Adds a bunch of dialogue options to the political stuff and allows for automated recruitment once you have a castle or city.

'Tweak M&B'

Allows you to play around with the internal number values. Building a siege tower takes too long? You can fix that. Tired of enemy lords arbitrarily escaping after you personally knock them off their high horse in battle? You can fix that. Comes with an easy-to-understand interface that explains how every stat works, no programming knowledge required.

Honestly, it's so popular that there's literally no bigger mods/modpacks that don't have it already included, so it's kinda pointless installing it by itself and running it in vanilla.

Looks more like a tool created to help you create your own mods than a mod per se. Not what I'm looking for.

Oh Jeez, there's like a million Mount & Blade mods, one for seemingly every untouched era of history and a few for fantasy and even sci-fi as well. Floris Mod Pack is the go-to mod if you're looking to try and preserve the base game experience as much as possible but otherwise most major mods still being worked on today tend to be the big total conversions. My advice is just to browse MODDB and the Taleworlds forums for one that seems interesting.

I haven't played much in the last few months but a quick glance online makes it look like the biggest singleplayer mod nowadays is one called Clash of Kings, a Game of Thrones themed total conversion. Looks pretty neat at a glance but not having played it myself can't say much beyond that. There's also one called Nova Aetas with seems really interesting, I might consider giving that one a try next time I'm looking for more Mount & Blade.

I've got a pretty damned nice new computer and 1257 stutters from time to time even then. I suspect that has more to do with the base game engine being pushed to it's absolute limits however rather than anything to do with my computer, but in any case if Brytenwalda is bringing your PC to its knees then 1257 will probably make it weep for sweet, sweet release. 1257 is probably the biggest mod I've ever tried for Mount & Blade just in terms of sheer scale, we're talking hundreds of armies all wandering around at once and dozens of cities with even more castles. It's pretty damned big.

Also really good, one of the best total conversions I've ever played for Mount & Blade, but definitely a demanding one.

Wow, a mod about Renaissance Calradia? Gotta check it out cause it looks pretty sweet.

It was my old PC that was being brought to its limits with Brytenwalda and more often than not crashed whenever a battle scene appeared, but my current one runs it just fine, so it's worth trying out 1257AD and seeing how it performs. I'm expecting the worst, though.

^This person speaks the truth. I've used Floris for a long time, but only recently found and accepted the gospel of Gekokujo in my life. :D

I don't know if my poor little laptop could handle 1257AD... but I guess you never know until you try.

Guess Bombiz was right on this one. This mod isn't as demanding as I thought and could run it without any stuttering or crashes. The only problem I have with it is that it's too easy (or at least it's the first impression I got of it) - with a ten men "peasant squad" I could take on a twelve men band of well-armed deserters, come out unharmed, and get rich as fuck on the semi-military-grade equipment they got. Guess I'll have to amp up the AI and level of taken damage to the highest setting to get some enjoyment out of it.

I'm going to totally ignore the OP's requests and recommend the Warsword Conquest mod, a Warhammer TC! http://www.moddb.com/mods/warsword-conquest

Yeah yeah orcs and trolls, but the new models and cities look FANTASTIC.

Since nobody has said it I recommend Silverstag. It is similar to Floris but with a few differences. You get perks at some levels (10,15 yada yada), you can assign party roles and having one named party member handling the food supply, one handling and selling loot and one handling prisoners. It requires a script extender.

Looks promising. I'll have a look at it.

I've been looking for the Warhammer one sargon's been using. It look pretty great as a warhammer fan if you'd be interested in that high fantasy type setting.

I just remembered another one. Peloponnesian War, is pretty much a mod about... well the Peloponnesian War. It isn't the best mod, but I've enjoyed the time I've spent playing it.

The Lord of the Rings mod, The Last Days of Middle Earth, was also recently updated to Warband. I'd really suggest looking into it, it's a fantastic mod.

The Game of Thrones mod is really good as well. It's called a Clash of Kings. I have had some issues trying to get it to run after the latest patch, but that might just be me.
