PS2, that was a hell of a console.
Kingdom Hearts, Sly Cooper, and some Metal Gear Solid will do you just fine.

i never said PS3 was shit.
Then please note that "something sony will never amount to" heavily implied that.

but i'm not here about that, i'm here about PS2 vs. new gen. i mean come on, if we all had a bunch of money to blow on a console and games which one are you gonna pick? the PS2 or the PS3?
PS2 had a ton of great games. Have you played some of the recommendations people have been throwing out? Graphics aside, they're amazing. Sure no one's making games for it anymore, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't treat yourself to some great games of the past.

-God of War games
-Prince of Persia trilogy
-Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
-Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (improved version of Snake Eater)
-B.L.A.C.K.
-Def Jam: Fight for NY
-Bully
-Splinter Cell: Double Agent (completely different and so much better than PC and 360 version)
-Soul Calibur 3
-Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition
-Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition
-Silent Hill 2
-Resident Evil 4
-Ico
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Gran Turismo 4
-GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories

And this list isn't even scratching the surface.

Fuuuuuuck! PS2 is boss! PS3 and Xbox 360 have very few games I'd want to play compared to PS2. How the fuck did that happened?

Klonoa 2 was only mentioned once, so I might as well say it again. Adorable little 2.5D platformer. I like the first one more, but the sequel is still good. It's soft, bright, and colourful. Bit on the short side and maybe a little easy depending on how quickly you catch on, but still fun.

Pretty much all of the others I would mention you've already played or other people have said. I vouch for Okami, Ico, and Shadow Of The Colossus. However, Ico and SOTC will be coming onto the PS3 in a few months so you can buy it there if you want the HD. Ico might be a touch pricey or hard to find, but people might be selling it with the collection coming out. Beyond Good & Evil was also on the PS2 (among other platforms) and it too was re-released for HD. Never played it but it looks fascinating. But we're naturally not talking about the PS3 so I'll just shut my yap about the re-releases.

I love my PS2. In that generation if you wanted quality platformers, Sony had just the ticket *strokes her Ratchet, Jak, and Sly games*.

Oh, I'm loving this thread! I finally got new input cables for my PS2, so that bad boy is back in action!...but then I remembered we sold most of the games, and my siblings broke a lot of the others...

So this thread will come in handy!

I'd recommend...well, a lot of the really good games have been recommended and someone ninja'd me with Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Maybe a few of the Armored Core games, 2 & 3 are pretty good. Pick Either one. Oh and try out Rayman 2 & 3 if you have time. Personally, I'd go with 3. Also, the Crash Bandicoot games are a blast! Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, is a personal fave!

Edit: And I almost forgot to add Katamari Damancy!

yeah, shadow of the colusses was epic, no doubt, the bully series and GTA were a lot of fun to. but the PS3 can run PS2 games (right? unless there's that thing you need to install to play them or something) but on top of that, why play san andreas when you can upgrade and get GTA4 episodes from liberty city? does it concern me that the majority of recomendations of discussion are on GTA? a little yes, but that's b/c it's fun!

speaking of upgrading; if you find a PS2 title you like, find it's PS3 counter part/sequel and compare the two. if the PS3 counter part fucked something up, stick to the PS2 version. but if you wanna play god of war 2, PLAY GOD OF WAR 3 IT WAS AWESOME.....excuse me, i don't normally shove opinons in people's faces like an otaku, but you get my point.

developers worked hard to get some of our favorite PS2 titles on to the PS3 for our enjoyment, except for star wars battlefront 2, those cunts, i want a damn triquel for consoles already.

Well, a lot of stuff has come out for the PS3.
I would say that Kingdom Hearts II is a great game for you.

Actually, no. The PS3 does not have backwards compatibility, which is very, very unfortunate. And there is no emulator, Sony had the chance to but decided not to go with it. I think they may have had an addon, but it doesn't appear to exist anymore.

say whaaaaaa? and here i am with my copies of halo 1 and 2 with my xbox 360, suckaaaaas

but i swear i thought the PS3 had that, what a load of bollocks. i guess that explains why PS2's are so cheap now (besides their low demand and cheap production cost)

now how the hell am i trolling? look, the PS2 was last gen, i don't care if you're just looking for a cheap game for shits and giggles, but they just don't make games for the PS2 anymore. if you already have a 360 or PS3, then you know why i said it (and please, just spoil yourself and buy a game for one of those consoles if you already have either console) but as for PS2 games, sorry bud, there just aren't any PS2 games that haven't been replaced by newer releases for newer consoles.
I'm looking for some good games I have not had the pleasure of trying when I was little. Now i'm on the search for more mature games. (Or titles that slipped right by me without my attention.)

I've grown tired of my ps3 and xbox because there is nothing I have not tried before. Everything on newer consoles feel cut and paste to me. Sometimes, the past holds the best experinces. (Like Metal Gear, fantastic stealth games. The newer splinter cell or Assassin's creed games have stealth, but not as deep as metal gear.)

Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix
Soul Calibur 3 (I thought 3 was better than 2)
Final Fantasy X
Ico (I haven't actually played it yet although I started watching a walkthrough and was like - wow that looks pretty fun)
