Infernal Affairs is fantastic. It was remade by Scorsese into The Departed but the original is millions better IMO.
Lots of people are split on which they think is better. Personally, I thought The Departed was infinitely superior to Infernal Affairs, but to each their own.

OT: Wow, a lot of good movies already mentioned.

I'll add some.
7 Days. A South Korean movie thriller. Fantastic acting and good story though the cinematography is a little vomit inducing.

The Orphanage. A Spanish horror thriller. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what makes this a good movie. Genuinely scary atmosphere mixed with fantastic acting. The story is predictable but is told so well it doesn't even matter.

And lastly...
Shiver. This is also a Spanish horror(ish) thriller. Great acting, nerve-wracking but a little predictable. A few obvious plot holes, but I really liked the movie.

Watch the original version of the film "REC"

Trust me it's SO much better than the american remake, even the fact that its subtitled makes it cool and the story is great too.

Another great film is called "Azumi". A film about a hot asian ninja girl kicking arse and taking names......what more could you want?

My favourite non-anime Japanese film: Aragami.
The best example of minimalist filmmaking ever. Only 5 actors, two of whom are only on screen for about a minute each and one of whom has only 3 or 4 lines in the entire movie. The entire film is shot on a single set and basically concerns one extremely long conversation and then duel between the two leads. The atmosphere is incredible and the action is awesome. The only real flaw is a TERRIBLE piece of CG near the end (which is understandable, as the entire film was made in 1 week- it was made on a drunken bet) and a bit of a deus ex machina ending. But it still kicks INCREDIBLE amounts of ass, largely because of a chilling performance by Masaya Kato.

And my favourite comedy: Himitsu no Hanazono (My Secret Cache).
Hilarious Japanese comedy about an ABSURDLY money-obsessed girl who goes to such extreme lengths to recover a cache of lost money that she ends up transforming her entire (extremely dull and lonely) life. It's daffy and absurd but also quite inspiring. You really have to watch it. Unfortunately it shares a title with a better-known Japanese TV series, so it can be hard to find.

Harakiri- The story of a ronin who's Lord is forced to commit Seppuku. Very entertaining, and yet also heavy on messages- kind of like The Dark Knight.
This film is indeed fantastic, but if you can find it I'll be impressed. I saw it at a cult film festival many years ago (it was on a double screening with Ghost in the Shell).

Das Kabinett des Doktor Caligari (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari)

Possibly one of the better (and most influential) German Expressionist films. I believe it's where Tim Burton got his crazy shit from.

Mind you, it's from the 1920's, so it's not horror as we would put it now. Still, one of the greatest films in my opinion (Also, they did several remakes, but the 1920's version still tops them all).

Or, to be more accurate, every film that Sergio Leone ever made. (Yeah, all seven of them.)
Lol, my post is right above yours and it says the EXACT same thing. Once Upon a Time in the West blows my mind. Ennio Morricone is GOD, and his scores make these already awesome movies into masterpieces.

[REC] spanish horror film.

Zombies. Jumps. Cloverfield-like filming.

Yeah, it's fucking brilliant!

Might I recommend Shimotsuma Monogatari

Better known in the states as Kamikaze Girls.

(I'm actually fond of the book version more but the movie is charming and funny.)

It's the story of 2 unlikely friends becoming close through a rather strange series of events and focuses in on a lot of Japanese subculture as well as how big a role fashion plays in subcultures.

It's quirky and I think rather charming and hilarious.

Man Bites Dog. Filmed COPS style as you follow a Belgian hitman. Very tongue in cheek/black humor with some nods to previous films like Spinal Tap.

pretty good? "the only" one, really? I wonder what you've seen?
Well it's the only foreign film (unless you count anime movies with english subtitles) that I've seen but it's interesting and had good reviews.

Les Triplettes Des Belleville - really quirky French animated movie about cyclists, the mafia, and 3 old ladies. I think. It's strange.

Brotherhood of the Wolf - one of my all time favorite films, period. Two men are hired to hunt what is basically a demonic werewolf.

Oldboy - This is one of the best movies I have ever seen and you must never watch it. Jesus. Fuck. I need to lie down just thinking about it.

Anything by Akira Kurosawa- Pick one, they're all good.

The City of Lost Children - this is probably my favorite film, foreign or American. It's hard to describe the plot, but it's just fantastic. The story is fun and compelling, the visuals are phenomenal, everything is just great.

Mongol - The story of Genghis Khan. This is going to be the most epic trilogy ever made in any language.

Downfall - one of the best movies about World War 2 ever made, ostensibly about Hitler's last days.

The Devil's Backbone - by the director of Pan's Labyrinth, so if you liked that you should definitely check this one out

Joyeaux Noel - It's a World War 1 Christmas movie. Trust me, it works. I watch it every year.

Casshern - you know what, let the video do the talking:

Kung Fu Hustle - Seriously some of the most fun you'll ever have in a Kung Fu movie.

Well, these are pretty known already, but basically almost any of Hayao Miyazaki's films.

Especially "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke".

Great Japanese anime-films.
