I was walking through my local DVD shop and saw tons and tons of new anime which I haven't seen before. Like random titles which looked pretty cool, but I haven't kept up to date with my anime. Last one I saw was 'Death Note' which was awesome btw. So I was wondering if people could recommend me some Animes to avoid, either due to creappy endings or just generally bad.

I saw Gantz and I would not recommend that to anyone, the ending was really stupid and the whole series (series 1, I know they made a series 2 but I never saw it) was really slow anyway.

But yeah, animes which were really bad and I should avoid.

KEEP in mind that I watch anime with my wife who enjoys girly anime so I can't count being girly as an anime to avoid, otherwise please put down why you think it was lame.

I would actually say avoid Death Note. Its ver predictable, and if you see the first season, there's no need to see the second, cause its much of the same.

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt

Just generally boring and bad, as well as terribly drawn, except in certain scenes.

And you missed the part where he liked it?

Jinki Extend- too safe, nothing exciting

Bleach, Naruto, One Piece- they last forever and twelve days.

There are people in this thread who are saying Neon Genesis Evangelion, K-ON!, and FLCL. I am sorely disappointed.

I know a lot of people here are going to hate me for this, but I'd avoid Blue Sub No.6 if I were you.

Before anybody rages at me, hear me out. The problem I have with Blue Sub No.6 isn't the bad animation quality or effects or even voice acting, those are forgivable for having such a low budget. My problem is that after Hayami gets on the submarine, there's next to no plot development until right at the end when they confront Zorndyke. It's the same problem Serial Experiments Lain had, just tenfold. There's no real interest or drive to keep watching unless you want more pointless military-speak and explosions. Sure, it has its good points, but I'd hardly say it's worth it.

Sorry, BSN6 fans. :/

11 Eyes is one. Don't be fooled by the awesome opening like I was! Its crap.

Also, avoid Clannad and Clannad After Story like the PLAGUE. Avoid it!

So...

Incredibly...

DEPRESSING!

EDIT: Since I'm getting quite a few quotes on this, I intended this to be in a joking manner. I still love Clannad, and the way it makes me tear up.

The number of anime I've watched and didn't like is incredibly small. It does, however, include Gantz, and I thought that Elfen Lied was shallow and stupid in essentially the same way. Golden Boy and Le Chevalier de Eon were also disappointingly bad.

Sorry, double post. Somehow in editing, I guess. I don't know, but the point is the later one has more stuff. Sorry.

Am I the first one who has to mention it? Do not watch Garzey's Wing. You will regret it, I assure you...

Forget the crap people talk about Naruto; I recommend it. You have to give it a chance and watch past the first season, and for the love of everything that is good watch it with subtitles, but it is actually really, really good, and only gets better as time goes on and it becomes a truly amazing and complex coming-of-age story. The story does actually move, if slowly, but the time is used well as long as you avoid the filler (which exists for a good purpose anyway). There are lists you can use to avoid it. It's a large commitment, and still growing, but it's worth it.

Anyway, I would say School Days, but it's one that really has to be seen to understand why.

Trigun has one of the worst endings I have ever seen, but the show is absolutely amazing and should be watched anyway.

Absolutely watch the first season of Orphen, but don't bother with the second, or at least make sure to watch it after the first. The first season is an awesome, dramatic fantasy, and the second is a stupid fantasy comedy until like halfway through.

Depending on how well you can handle gore, stay away from Elfen Lied. It's a pretty great anime, but one of the most gruesome I have ever seen, and more than its share of pointless nudity/fanservice to boot. If you can handle that, go right ahead.

Really though, without knowing more of your preferences I can't say much. One thing I would recommend to "branch out," if you will, is watching Clannad. It's one of the best romance anime out there, and the second/final season (Clannad After Story) is guaranteed to make you bawl like a baby, no matter how much you may assure me otherwise. Your reaction to that show should say a lot about whether you would enjoy others like Kanon and Bokura ga Ita or whether you should avoid them.

But so worth it! Such a good anime, and the ending, while confusing to those that don't understand the show's origins as a video game/visual novel (a problem easily fixed with Wikipedia), was more than happy enough to make it work. I can't recommend any anime higher.

EDIT: Just re-read and noticed you watched it with your wife. This is the best girly anime you could ask for, especially if she doesn't mind a good cry. Just don't be afraid to let out a few tears yourself. Remember, a true man is secure enough in his manliness to cry when tears are deserved.

...This. I didn't know what was going to happen. Blehhh.

I think one anime that you should probably avoid just because saying that you've watched it would draw some strange attention is Kodomo no Jikan. It's a romance... about a 3rd (and in later OVAs, 4th-5th) grader pursuing her teacher. Not much more needs to be said.

I need to catch up on my current giant-list-o'-anime before I can branch out more, but I want to watch some series being mentioned here (like Clannad). ....My current bunch is fairly varied, but I need a good romance.

El Cazador De La Bruja(or whatever)- I was lured in by the Spanish title and promises of yuri but it's honestly the most boring thing I've ever witnessed...

Bleach- Filler makes me rage...

Naruto- same reason as the above... also orange jumpsuit ninjas...

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles- also extremely boring... I watched one and a half seasons before giving up... it just felt like I was running around in circles accomplishing nothing and wasting time...

School Days- possibly the worst show I've ever seen...well the show is made up of completely unlikeable and stupid characters, too much melodramatic bullshit, even for anime, sub par animation and a fanbase worse than Evangelion's, all trying to live off of an ending that tries it's best to be shocking but is more satisfying due to the already mentioned terrible characters...

Also the original Helsing series... it's rather average, while the OVA kicks much more ass...

No, just saying, I wouldnt recommend it. never personalize a thread like that, because other people read these and take the suggestions themselves. Dont just make it about the OP, thats off putting.

I liked it way back when I saw it on Toonami, then I bought it later and thought it was very..."meh" And for the love of god or gods or dog if you are dyslexic don't ever watch the special features about the video game while not on hallucinogenic drugs.

Naruto and Bleach

On to less predictable choices,
Actually, no, I don't really have anything other than those two. A lot of Anime not everyone likes. I mean, I loved Lucky Star for the very reasons most people who hated it, hated it for. It's all a matter of taste and you won't know what you like until you see it for yourself.

Just go to a site like Anime News Network, search a series you know you like, then search for other series with similar genre tags. I've found several gems that way. I've even found some by searching for Anime using the same Voice Actors.

Hmm... I guess it's just easier to recommended Anime than to dissuade Anime. Maybe I'm just being Optimistic, though. :p

Disagree.

Really disagree. It is extremely well drawn for what it tries to portray.

Agreed on One Piece, but Bleach and Naruto are good for just plain action.

Big O is good. I'm not sure why you'd say this.

I dont watch that much anime but when i do i usually end up watching shit, so here are a few.

Panty and stockings with carterbelt.
Highschool of the dead.
Spice and wolf.
Most stuff by Shonen jump.
Total disagreement. I recommend watching all of those except maybe Spice and Wolf. They aren't trying to be crazy deep, there is no reason not to enjoy them for what they are.
