Recommendations: Anime to Avoid

Also fuck Elfen Lied, Gantz, Gunslinger Girl, Panty/Stocking, ALL Shonen Jump anime (Naruto, One Piece, Gintama, Bleach), Neon Genesis Evangelion, Higurashi (sorry, guys), Umineko (less sorry, guys), ALL Type-moon stuff (Fate/Stay go fuck yourself, Lunar Legend shut the fuck up), ALL Key stuff (Clannad, Kanon, I wish I were a bird), Princess Resurrection (not a bad show, they just took all the violence out of a manga that used violence as a fucking plot point), Death Note, Mariaholic, School Days and Lucky Star.

My contribution..... Ikki Tousen. It claims to be based on the story of the Three Kingdoms but really every scene is bondage, gravity defying boobs, and panty shots. Every. Single. Scene. If the author of the Three Kingdoms could be revived and shown this anime "based" on his work he'd crawl back into his grave.

I've never seen ANYTHING so monstrously disrespectful to the source material.

PSG is a love it or hate it type of anime.

And yeah ikkitousen sucks ass I thought it was going to be interesting, but no its just pure fanservice

Hey now. Depressing doesn't mean bad. Air was depressing as fuck but it was still a damn good story. On the topic of Death Note, yeah, once L dies you don't need to see anymore, because Light should have won that whole thing. I'd say avoid the second half of Claymore, you don't need to see any more after the main character heads north. Uh ... it's kind of hard to pick bad anime because all the ones I've watched I loved. The friend I watch anime with has a great sense of taste.

I'm going to mention one here that may draw the ire of the posters, though maybe not considering no one's mentioned it yet. Venus Versus Virus. Also Kite Liberator, now that I think about it. Both have awesome stories, but they just completely drop the endings with no hope whatsoever of any conflict resolution. You should still watch them, to be sure, just be prepared for the WTF.

I've heard good things about Welcome to the NHK, I'm considering watching it just to see what it's like.

Well, avoid the ANIME of Naruto and Bleach, and just read the comics. One to avoid, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, its just mindf*ckery. And the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist series, just watch Brotherhood, seeing as 2003 forgets what series it is around episode 3, and becomes a bunch of retarded ass fanfics, completely disregarding the source manga..

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt: Well, this one has been mentioned already, but still... Easier to look as something the Tartakovsky created while high.

I can understand Higurashi and Umineko (though it breaks my heart to admit it), Clannad, and the Shonen Jump stuff as well as NGE and the whole thing at the beginning of your post, but Kanon, School Days, Lucky Star, and Elfen Lied are all awesome shows. I am sad. I'll agree about Gunslinger Girl though, at least the second season Il Teatrino, since it was pretty dull.

I'll join you. Spice & Wolf is awesome. The banter between the character is excellent, the story makes more sense than many other things I've seen, and the music, while certainly not the best, is really very good.

I concur, although I will qualify by adding Wing to that count if you don't like being preached at. If you don't mind that, go for it, even if you don't agree with what they're saying, it's thought provoking, which is a mark hugely in it's favour.

I'm also going to place up my flame shield for my next anti-recommendation: Neon Genesis Evangelion. I don't like whiners,that simple. Furthermore, the second season of Robotech (The Masters). 1 and 3 are fine, but do yourself a favour and just wikipedia the masters.

I'm also going to say the that the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya should only be looked up if one is really fond of anime as a medium. If there are just some anime you like, but the medium itself can't count you as a fan, don't bother.

For less fancyful flights of wish fulfillment and more down to earth stories Something that's sorely needed in anime these days, I recommend Osamu Tezuka's BlackJack. If it's anything like the manga you're in for a treat.

Yeah, but Wing only had the one guy who was psychologically strange living his entire life as a soldier, although I must say that Quatre was a bit SEED-ish as well, total waste of Amuro Ray's voice actor.

Animes to avoid? for me..almost EVERYONE OF THEM!
i'm not saying that 90% of them are bad, but most of the manga-adapted animes are very pale in comparison to their manga counterpart (personal opinion). While there are still many good ones even though its adapted from mangas.

my conclusion : most manga adapted animes/movies fail. hence i cannot give specific answers. but i can give recommended ones to watch.

Whats good cause I think I do agree that alot of Manga turned Anime end up sucking due rushed endings.

Fair enough i actually like the half you listed and recommend those to people but to each his own. I am more a visual novel junkie though and i tend to avoid nearly all anime based off of adult and even regular visual novels due the amount of content and time they cut out each one and the possibility and endings that are cut as well with a rushed project with only 12 episodes I did love higurashi but hated the uminkeo anime., this is just a personal opinion though.
