Good people of the Escapist, I find myself in a bit of a quandary: I got a 3DS over Christmas and yet I have no games to play on it.
So, does anyone have any recommendations for some 3DS or DS games that I should get?

Genre really doesn't matter to me, so long as the game is good I'll play it. I do enjoy more story-focused games and RPGs, but feel free to suggest anything and everything.

Side note: I hear there's a Harvest Moon game for the 3DS and I'm rather curious to know if it is any good or not. I've never played the series before, but a let's play got me interested.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is an excellent game for the 3DS. Also if you like story focused games I'd suggest both 999 and it's sequel Virtue's Last Reward.

Out of what I've played myself, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance should be a clear choice for your RPG fix. I certainly enjoyed it.

Super Mario 3D Land is also really good, assuming you're not already bored of Mario.

If you would like to play Metal Gear on the go, but lack a Vita, Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater should be serviceable.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is the best action game on 3DS so far in my book. It also comes with a stand to relieve hand cramps, but personally, I never had any problems with the controls.

Don't forget to download demos on the eshop as well. They'll usually tell you more about the game than any recommendation here could. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts 3D, and Metal Gear 3D should all have demos available there.

Since I don't own a 3DS yet, I can only list DS games. With that said, here's my list:

Ghost Trick. It's a story focused puzzle game done right.

Radiant Historia. A must have. One of the best RPGs I've played in a long time. It does turn-based combat right, and has an excellent story.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Fuck the haters, I loved those games.

Rune Factory 1+3 were quite fun. They're story-based dungeon crawler farming simulators. Think Harvest Moon combined with an RPG. Two was a pain in the ass since it's very limited until you take control of your child.

Dragon Quest 9 is rather fun as well.

Lock's Quest. It's a story driven tower defense RPG. Can be a bit frustrating at times, but is pretty fun.

The Professor Layton games are pretty fun, as are the Ace Attorney games.

Castlevania. There's Order of Eclessia, Portrait of Ruin and Dawn of Sorrow. All are good, but only Order of Eclessia is a must play IMO.

Pokemon Conquest. A Pokemon turn based strategy game. It's tons of fun.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 1+2 and Strange Journey. Devil Survivor is turn based strategy, while Strange Journey is a classic turn based dungeon crawler. They're hard as balls but just as fun.

Mario Kart 7: Solid racer with good graphics and track variety. Not much to say, it's a new Mario Kart.

Paper Mario Sticker Star: A great game although a little light on the RPG mechanics of previous installments it's still a solid entry. It still has the timed button presses but there are no partners and your main attacks are through the use of stickers. The graphics are detailed and everything looks nice and papery, as it should be obviously.
