Hellsing is one of the best anime's around in my opinion, so i'd check that out :p
If you ask me the original was bland and went no where, but the the ultimate ovas are freaking awesome.

Just because I can, "Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni".

Good luck, have fun.
No, no, no. Just no. I have terrible memories with that anime. A friend told me that it was a great anime that i should look at and left it at that. About 25 minutes after the first episode i have severe mental scars and images that can not be unseen.

I too love terrible adaptations of decent games.
I know right?

In all seriousness though, I didn't think it was as bad of an adaption as everyone did though, but what are you gonna do, VN players gotta hate I suppose. Kinda reminds me of how readers of a book hate on a movie adaptation.

Well, personally I've never been much of an anime fan, but after hearing about how awesome Death Note was from so many people (particularly people from this site), I gave in and watched it. It's a bit of a convoluted start, but it had me hooked by the end of the second episode. I've yet to finish, but it has maintained my interest far more than any other show in recent memory.

So... Death Note; I recommend Death Note.

also
Elfen Lied
Cowboy Bebop
Code Geass: Lelouch of the rebellion and R2
Full metal Alchemist (does anyone know when I should start watching brotherhood if I've already seen the original?)
death note (it's much better than it looks, it deserves all the praise it gets)

Ok, watch
Princess Mononoke
Howls Moving Castle
Spirited Away
Castle in The Sky
Nausica: in The Valley of The Wind
Full Metal Alchemist

...in that order.
What he said, only I'd bump Castle in the Sky further up the list.

Sounds like you have a taste for cyberpunk, if you do? You should definitely check out Akira, Cowboy Bebop, hell even Animatrix. Also here's a none anime recommendation, check out Bladerunner if you haven't.

There's tons of good stuff out there, but there is some you really.....reallllyy, need to be open minded about...0o

Elfen Lied and FLCL is some of it.

Either than that definitely check out, Berserk, Helsing, Vampire Hunter D, and Ninja Scroll.

I think Grave of the Fireflies is the only few movies Roger Ebert admitted crying to.
