So, I'm enlisting in the army in July. I'm about to start three years of service, in which I will rarely get to leave the base or wherever I'm stationed. I'm going to need something at night when we get to relax. Aside from books, an iPod, and maybe my guitar, all I'll have to entertain myself is my DS. I'm looking to stock up on games, but I really don't know which ones to get.

So do any of you have recommendations? I like action games and RPGs, but I'm up for anything that is really fun.

Edit: The games I've played on the DS and enjoyed:

Phantom Hourglass
New Super Mario Bros.
Pokemon Diamond

And I'm about to start Dragonquest Monsters: Joker, which I'm looking forward to it, because I played the three original Dragonquest games (back when it was called Dragonwarrior in the states) and the first two Dragonquest Monsters on the Gameboy. They were some of my favorite childhood games.

well id suggest puzzle quest, its pretty much like an RPG meets bejeweled. Yes i know it sounds odd but it is an amazing game in my opinion.

I'm tossing my hat in for Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie Barbecue

It's a quirky rail shooter in which you play as a gun toting Little Red killing wave after wave of zombies as you go through fairy tale land trying to find what caused the zombie plague.

It has the right level of challenge mixed with fun. I highly recommend it.....if you can find a copy.

If you like RPGs, I'd check out Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor. It's a really good turn based RPG. Other than that, pokemon

I'm gonna go entirely left-field and recommend you the Kim Possible DS game. My sister got it free with her DS and, having played it (initially out of pure, excruciating curiosity), I realised it is actually a really good game. 2.5 platforming with a bit of gadget-based puzzling. Not too challenging, but a nice fun time-sink.

The mission where you have to blow in the mic to keep a parachute afloat is a bit crap though.

The world ends with you. Fantastic game with adjustable difficulty and plenty of WTF moments.

Ooh, and Castlevania. All of them =]

Might and Magic: Clash of heroes, good game worth a good few hours of your time and there is a battle option which is probably worth a good few more

its a simple concept that gets very addictive once you start trying to mak your combos and moves (if you think you may like puzzle quest you will like this too

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - This is simply a blast to play. If you wish, you can get Partner's in time, but you wouldn't be missing anything if you gave it a pass. This, on the other hand, is simply an outstanding game full of interesting puzzles, and probably the coolest battle I've ever seen in a game on the DS.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - Phantom Hourglass was a hit or miss. I personally thought it was okay, but Spirit Tracks makes a huge improvement on this. Trust me when I say it has one of the best musical scores for a DS game.

Super Mario 64 DS - If you didn't like the original SM64, this won't change your mind. However, this is a great version if you did like the original, with more stars, extra stages, four playable characters, and simply being portable. However, on the four playable character thing, let me just tell you once you unlock Luigi, you'll never touch the others again, except when you have to use Mario for the final Bowser stage.

Animal Crossing: Wild World - This game will devouer your life. Why you may ask? Who knows! It's not an amazing game, but it will keep you hooked for a long time, and will be well worth the money you pay for it in the end.

Those are my top suggestions, but feel free to get whatever fits you best. :D
