Hey guys, was just lurking a "what music do you think is noise" thread on here, and thought rather than making a thread about how much we hate each other's genre's of music, we make a thread of links to examples of some of our favourite artists, and what we love about their music. I'm in desperate need of some new material to listen to, because my creativity with my own musicality is stagnating. Seeing as this internet and I'm trying to bring something positive to the table this thread is probably going to bomb the hell out, but what the hey, I'll give it a crack.

First link: Porcupine Tree: Normal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHPIJPzYYmw

This song pretty much encapsulates everything I LOVE about this band. it's got the amazing acoustic riff at the start, the psychedelic verse and catchy chorus. then towards the end it has the heartbreaking "wish i was old" section. These guys are my favourite band ever and just blow my mind with their diversity and skill every time I hear something new by them.

Second link: The Living End: Carry Me Home (live)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvtDdsFZiMI

After PT, these guys are my favourite live act. Australian band, took punkabilly to the next level and can did the seemingly undoable job of mixing Stray Cats with Green Day and throwing in a bit of AC/DC for good measure. Seen em live thrice, and would go see them again in a heartbeat because they're just that entertaining.

Anyway, let everyone know what you think of their music, then post some of your own favourite stuff.

If you don't already use it, then I recommend Grooveshark. Excellent, free music streaming service.

As for music, I like Nine Inch Nails and the Inception soundtrack.

I have a taste for Alternate Rock, specifically The Killers and Coldplay. The first song I heard by Coldplay that I knowingly knew was by Coldplay (I heard Clocks and Yellow in the past but I didn't know who sang it) was Violet Hill.

I got hooked into the Killers after buying their Day & Age album. This song is considered by me and many people as their best song.

OH DEAR GOD HOW AWESOME IS THE INCEPTION SOUNDTRACK!?!?!?!?!? Seriously, Seriously, cool music.

I also liked a lot of Viva la Vida, as in the album not the song, I know a lot of people who get all elitist and call them chick's music but they're actually pretty damn good, and yeah Violet Hill is cool. Not such a huge fan of The Killers though, don't really know why, I've heard heaps of their stuff and I'm just not a fan.

Blau; by Laidback Luke

Its just awesome... Give it time to warm up, and feel the power of a trance track with a human drum beat...!

I love The Living End, but I don't reckon that's even in their top 10 songs. Now, Second Solution on the other hand...

Either Mr Brightside or Somebody Told Me is their best song. Read My Mind is alright though.

@kidcrash: WHOA, need to get me some Jeniferever. This song kind of reminds me of that song "west coast" by I don't know who.

love the DnB stuff, particularly the DJ fresh one. Priestess wins points with me for being a heavy band that features actual singing, but still didn't appeal to me that much.

@smithy_2045: yeah Second Solution is fantastic, but my favourite song by them is All Torn Down. Carry me home is a good shouty headbangy type thing for festivals though

may as well post a few more links:

Karnivool: Themata - awesome prog/alt metal outfit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t59vYoP6LkY

Cage the Elephant: Ain't no Rest for the Wicked - for all you borderlands fans :p
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVV3Vo9VjGI

Lady of the Sunshine: White Rose Parade - i love this song, and the rest of the album isn't half bad either
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3Gm0P8pUgQ

Lustmord - Destruction - ambient sound designer. he actually puts transponders and microphones inside buildings and whatnot, and then goes to the studio and mixes it all, and it sounds like nightmare fuel....

I have a feeling you'd like Blackfield.

I personally like Post Rock, definitely recommend bands like Explosions In The Sky, Followed By Ghosts, Mogwai or And So I Watch you From Afar.

Also check out Colour For A Rebel, the guy does really good music but nobody has really heard his music.
