So I'm new to online gaming and my friends pointed me in the diretion of some MMORPG's, namely Shaiya and Final Fantasy. After trawling through the internet and looking at different MMORPG reviews I came to one conclusion: who better to ask than gamers?
So if you wouldn't mind, which MMORPG would you recommend and why?

WoW

Because when everything strives to be like it, and fails miserably.

or Warhammer Online, i thought that was pretty cool.

WoW, it's the easiest of the lot, so if you're new to MMOs, I'll have to recommand that.

Actually, screw that. Have a look at some videos from some different MMOs and find one that looks fun, if you got friends playing one of them, that should play a huge role in your choice.

And no, WoW isn't as good as everyone says, it's just easy and mainstream. I should hopefully know, I've played it for 4 years+.

World of Warcraft. At the end of the day, it's so popular because it does things well, and it's good fun. You won't regret it.

Rappelz [http://rappelz.gpotato.com/] (Kinda like a free version of WoW).

And:
I am MercurySteam, and I am here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? "No" Says the man at Ebay, "it belongs to the poor". "No" says the Man at religioustolerance.org, "it belongs to God". "No" says the man at Facebook, "it belongs to everyone". I rejected those answers. Instead; I chose something different. I chose the Impossible. I chose. The Escapist. With a forum where the opinionated would not fear the censor (within reason), where the Moderators would not be bound by petty morality, where the Gone Gonzo would not be constrained by the troll. And with the ache of your fingers (and perhaps a new keyboard), The Escapist can be yours as well...

Lord of the Rings is good for a while. Running about, checking the various famous locales and even sometimes truly feeling like a small cog in the far, far grander storyline. Additionally, the LotR:O take on player-versus-player combat is quite refreshing for a first time low-level player... all the nastiness of far higher level opposition is safely segregated over the hill and far away.

Sadly, it does tend to degenerate into the basic quest premises of go here / kill that / retrieve that or combinations thereof that make up a large amount of current MMORPGs, but I think you'll pretty much find that in all of them barring a few less conventional (and by that I mean based on the WoW premise that is such an abundant success!) games such as Eve.

So in all, its worth a try if you fancy it. There's never been a better time to go back to Middle Earth, but you'd probably not want to live there.

I'd recommend WoW to anyone looking for an MMO.

Others I have played and enjoyed are Guild Wars and Lord of the Rings Online, the latter being quite good to play through the story with friends.

Aion. Whose motto should be:

The only FREAKIN' MMO where you get WINGS.

That's my motivator right there.

Also, I have to say it's the prettiest MMO on the market, if you're into that thing.

Dragonica

Free MMORPG which has an active battle system with combo points as in the more you hit the higher combo you get.

Play as Mage as the first character because it's easily the most powerful one.

My personal favorite is AdventureQuestWorlds. I never managed to get into any others.

Must be the childish graphics...

Anyway, I recommend that. The community is generally ok, and it's free for as long as you want it to be. Upgrading is never a necessity, just an advantage.

WoW. I've played a lot of them, and yes, WoW has problems, but it's a good game. I don't like it, but I've played it for awhile now. Even MMOs get boring after awhile..

WoW...don't bother with Guild Wars. It's hardly an MMO.

The best free MMO I've played would be Perfect World. I'm afraid that's the only advice i can give you as i make it a point to not spend money every month on a game with no storyline but if it's free then hook me the hell up........yes........I'm cheap.
