Anyone played 'Silk Road'? A friend just suggested it to me but said they didn't actually like it.
Anyone have any experience with it?

RL 1.0

It's a 360 all around immersive environment, 7 billion players, grinding sucks though, you have to find a job and not all trade leaders might take you, might have to grind a few years of college as well, but that part is pretty fun.

You can do pretty much everything in RL1, best of all, it's free.

Although when you die, respawning is a *****.
Somebody should ban you since you still use 1.0. I use the latest version 2.0.0.9. Everything is a lot cooler in that version but sometimes I look back at the days when we still played 1.4.x.x. You could accuse people of being a hacker and they would get burned alive. It was awesome.

I played it for about a week or so on a chinese server with a translation pack. It wasn't that bad and you could actually feel a difference between the classes (something which certain MMO developers don't get) but it's a real grind since it takes a lot of time to level up.

So I'm new to online gaming and my friends pointed me in the diretion of some MMORPG's, namely Shaiya and Final Fantasy. After trawling through the internet and looking at different MMORPG reviews I came to one conclusion: who better to ask than gamers?
So if you wouldn't mind, which MMORPG would you recommend and why?
WoW...don't bother with Guild Wars. It's hardly an MMO.
IT'S HARDLY AN MMO??!! WHAT THE F*** IS WRONG WITH YOU? GUILD WARS IS AS MUCH AN MMO AS ANY OTHER!
Hehehe, goody, I riled someone. And it's alright, you can fucking swear man.
Guild Wars is not as much an MMO as any other.

I would have to say Guild Wars. I say this because I have played just about every mmo in existence, including that god forsaken cesspool of flith, wow, and at the very least, the game play to money spent ratio for Guild Wars is in a league of its own compared to every other mmo on the market today. Yes, even wow (sorry if I hurt any of your feelings).

For a completely free mmo... try Atlantica Online.

Don't try to defend wow here kids, four years of Guild wars, with all the expansions is only $200 USD, while four years of wow with both the current expansions is $870 USD. As it turns out, there's more to do in Guild Wars and far better pvp than in the latter.

Yes, it is my opinion. So don't you fucking flame me for it, twat. Quoting fail anyway, if you wanted me to get notified you should have actually quoted my post. Lucky for you I was skimming through. I've played Guild Wars, and compared to WoW it's demonstrably less of an MMO.

yeah, it's better.
it requires brains, unlike WoW
you can only take 8 skills in an area, so you'll have to think carefully which skills to take along
It's more skillbased than WoW (which is grindbased)

However, in GW you can't encounter people just running around anywhere in the game like in WoW. So, in that sense, it isn't as much of an MMO. Was I wrong in what I said? No. You've just provided a reason as to why you think it's fun, whereas I was thinking about its actual status as an MMO in comparison to WoW. Oh, and the real WoW requires brains. It's just that idiots can get on and run around doing what they as well.

World of Warcraft. Caution: Extremely addictive.
only if you have no life.
otherwise it,s safe.
What they said.
I used to play Guild wars a bit and it was pretty, but disappointing. I bought it because:
A. I'd never played Wow
B. I didn't want to pay monthly for anything.
Unfortunately Guild wars relies on both these things, it's allright, if you've never played wow.
There is a reason why EVERYONE copies WoW, (except maybe Eve online but spreadsheets aren't my thing), and that reason is it has been around and popular enough to not only set the tone for all others but to become so polished that none can compete.

I'm going to have to go with the masses and say WoW. I just got back into it recently and honestly, it's so much more rewarding that it's ever been. Before when I played WoW, I'd often play for 2 hours and not feel like I'd done anything. But, what with mounts at lvl 20, more exp for kills and quests and exp from PvP you'll really feel like your improving all the time without a huge time investment.

But warning: it is extremely addictive. I try to limit myself to a few hours a day, and I havn't played for maybe 4 days as of now (though that may have something to do with Brutal Legend and Batman Arkham Asylum)

Real men form their own opinions. Are you a real man?

If not, grow a pair and wait for The Old Republic, which shall biblically smite every MMO currently on the market. If Star Wars isn't your thing, wait until APB comes out for some cops and robbers goodness with no monthly fee. Not liking sci-fi or the modern era? Dungeons and Dragons Online is free and it's pretty alright.
