Well, the Overhaul didn't go well, it compltely broke my game.

Anyway...anyone know any methods for getting the game to work in widescreen?
This is almost definitely a problem with MGE, the mod in the overhaul that adds all of the fancy effects and good resolutions and stuff. Here are a few things to try.

Launch the game directly from Morrowind.exe. Launching it from the launcher (which I think steam does by default) causes problems with MGE, so always launch directly from the executable.

Try running Morrowind.exe as an administrator. This has worked for me many times.

If neither of those work, move (Don't delete) d3d8.dll and dinput8.dll from your Morrowind folder. Then, try running Morrowind.exe. If it works, then we know for sure that it's a problem with MGE. Exit Morrowind, then open the Morrowind launcher, change the resolution (it doesn't matter to what), and close the launcher. Then, put d3d8.dll and dinput8.dll back into your Morrowind foler, and try again. The overhaul launcher should have already done this, but if neither of the two things above works, try this.

This is coming from experience of having to install MGE manually many times over. Trust me, you don't know how much easier the overhaul installer makes it.
Well the Overhaul instructions were terrible for one. I unzipped the files as it stated in the instructions, and then the installer didn't work. Then the newer "fixed" installer didn't work. Then I just tried extracting the big data.exe, set up the MGE and MGSO things, enabled some plugins with the Data files thing in the launcher. and started the game. The game worked but then apparently the distant land wasn't generated properly and the entire screen was blue, apart from the crosshair and text boxes.

So I'll just try again with a clean install. I wasn't very impressed with the instructions provided with the Overhaul since they were extremely wrong.

I thought you had the extremely common black screen issue. My mistake. Anyway, after you get a clean instal, try running the installer in XP compatibility mode (I'm assuming you're using Windows 7). This is what I needed to do to get the installer working, and it didn't tell me that that might work anywhere.

How do you start running in compatibility mode?

Right click on the executable. Go to properties, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and make sure it's set to XP Service Pack 3 (this is what worked for me, at least). Also, while you're at it, check run this program as administrator, as the overhaul installer needs to be run as administrator to work properly.

One note, don't do this on your current Morrowind install. Do it on a fresh one. Delete the current one by going to Steam, right clicking on Morrowind, and click delete local content. Then, delete any files still in your Morrowind folder, as these are the files that could (and probably would) cause you problems.

I just got Morrowind myself. I found a mod that gets rid of the random hitting (and makes the combat a bit more like the later Elder Scrolls):

http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/42332

Be warned, it does dramatically change how combat works (in your favor)

The description is not in english, so here is the translation but here is what it does:
-You cannot miss a target as long as you're in range
-Running doesn't cost fatigue, but attacking drains more fatigue to balance
-Health and Magicka regenerate like in Skyrim
-Enchanted items recharge faster (each soul gem recharges more I think, I haven't used enchanted items yet)
-Running speed is slightly increased
-Racial abilities are more balanced (Argonians swim faster, things like that)
-Enchanted items have more capacity
-Some spells cost less

I really enjoy this mod, and it works with the overhaul mod, so no need to worry.
Wow, that's good. I like it. I've got mods to covers most options already, so I don't think I'll install it now, however it's really something to recommend. Well done!

Also welcome to the Escapist, have fun, and stay out of the basement.
Does anyone know how to get this mod working? I extracted the .esp into the data files and enabled it in the Daata files section of the launcher but then the game was broken and didn't load. Can anyone give me a hand with this?

Try playing with the load order of the mods. Also, do you have the Ovahaul installed? Or other mods - it could be a conflict.

Apparently it works with the overhaul...I don't know how to change load order either?

The entire game is unplayable now even after removing the .esp

You can use the Morrowind Mod Manager for that.

OK, that's weird, though. I don't think it should be doing this. At all. I'm out of ideas, save reinstall the game and mods, but I'd suggest leaving this for later. Maybe somebody else can figure something out.

I've fixed the game, so it's playable.

However I don't want to risk trying the mod again and losing my 2 hours of play so far. So I don't know what to do. Back up my saves...then try?

The game is nigh on unplayable with such slow movement speed and sprinting draining stamina so quickly...oh 2002 design decisions...

Is this with any mods or not?

You can try zipping it up, thus preserving a working copy. Always a good idea. If anything goes wrong, just delete everything and unzip.

EDIT: Also, back up the saves separately.

This is with only the Overhaul installed. I don't see why a mod changing some aspects of gameplay should clash with a visual mod...weird.

The overhaul does more than visual stuff, it has other bugfixes, balance fixes, and random stuff, too.

I think ther was a mod in the Overhaul which made Argonians more balanced or something, this might clash so I'll disable some stuff and try again.
