After discovering the Vorkosigan Saga, Snow Crash, The Culture
Series, The Expanse Trilogy and rereading The Forever War I'm trying to
find more Science Fiction novels that combine exciting action with
smart/smartly executed story telling. Now to clear things up, by
"action" I don't necessarily mean Military Sci-Fi(although those
shouldn't be excluded) I'd like more variety like cyberpunk or present
based science fiction.

Have you tried Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan? It's pretty much cyberpunk combined with a hardboiled detective story, and I highly recommend it. The only warning I'd give is to watch out if you don't like graphic sex scenes, because those are totally in there. Otherwise, it's a novel that strikes the perfect balance of thoughtful social commentary and badass action, all taking place in a genuinely interesting setting.

There's always William Gibson's Sprawl Trilogy: Neuromancer, Count Zero, & Mona Lisa Overdrive.

If you liked Forever War, you'd probably like Heinlein's Starship Troopers & John Steakley's Armor

I'm reading through Roger Zelazny's 'Lord of Light' and it's fantastic. Basically in the far future a few people have made themselves immortal and they now lord over the rest of humanity as the living embodiments of the Hindu Pantheon. It follows the man who embodies Siddhartha and his fight against the rest of the pantheon. If this sounds even remotely interesting to anyone it's fantastic.

I really can't recommend the Risen Empire duology by Scott Westerfeld enough. Absolutely loved those books, they're seriously some of my favorite ever. They're basically a super-far future with a healthy dose of action but a very smart story with some really cool/unique elements.
