Brad Pitt is reportedly the leading candidate to play the role of John Marston in an upcoming movie based off the Red Dead Redemption videogame.

I personally don't think Brad Pitt could do John Marston justice but i don't know who could maybe Josh Brolin.

Your thoughts?

Well, the short film was terrible, so that gives it a bad precedent...

Anyway, the reason the game was so good is that it took advantage of the gaming medium so well. It told a story that would be lost as a movie, because it really put you in his character. The dialogue while traveling, then whole world, added to his character.

I think we'll end up with another Max Payne movie. Great game, but a slightly shitty movie that completely misses the point, although with some decent actors.

It would be a movie based on a game that was an amalgam of cliches and tropes of the genre as established by hundreds of other movies. So, no, I don't want to see one.

I have had to tell a few people this. It would end up being just a little wierd in the end.
However I DO think that Brad Pitt would do a good job as marston.

This sums up my opinion nicely. There are certian games that worked great becuase they were games, and would be a lot worse in other mediums. RDR is one of them.

The movie adaptation of Prince of Persia proved to me that even talented actors and filmmakers cannot make a good videogame movie, so I want to see the thought of a RDR movie (as well as all other videogame to movie adaptations) to just disappear. Fast.

If a RDR movie must get made, I agree with you on Josh Brolin. When I was playing the game I was constantly reminded of him as John Marston. It still wouldn't interest me enough to watch it though.

I hope they don't base the movie off of the game, but off of John Marston's previous life as an outlaw in Dutch's gang. That would be worth watching.

And I love Pitt in Marston's role. He'd fit the job perfectly. Fight Club anyone?

Westerns died for a reason.
When did they die? Because honestly, with the success of the Young Gun movies, you would have thought that they still have some relevance in the entertainment industry.

Personally, I'm not sure about making a movie off of Red Dead Redemption. Considering that the best part of it all to me was the Scenery and the setting. It really did feel like a Western game. That's not to say that it won't be good.

It died in the 70's or a little before then. Sure the occasional western still gets made bu the genre as a whole is long gone. You shouldn't bother making more unless there's a good reason for it to exist.

I think as long as people keep looking at Cowboys as a symbol of rugged freedom from a time when the land wasn't tame and when technology didn't give us the benefits we have today, westerns will not die. It's the cowboy stereotypes that are keeping Westerns alive and as long as that keeps appealing to people, then it won't go away.

I know Clint Eastwood is maybe a bit too old for this role, but I mean it'd work wouldn't it? Sort of like Unforgiven but more violence....
